A bit different to my other upload at Marloes Beach. Both taken on the same day. A stunning beach with so many possible compositions. Lovely to see blue skies even though it is only a photo - back to grey skies here again! This has had a lot of sliding to give a moody feel ! HSS!
A bit of sunshine while I was laying the table for lunch - all frightfully formal here to keep a routine. Caught the sight of the fork on a white plate, grabbed the camera, and took a few photographs.
Rather surprised with the result and the coloured bokeh balls but liked the general smoothness of the out of focus parts. Pleased too that I had the one prong end pretty sharp whist the other showed the very small depth of field.
Not too bad for a 70 year old lens!

Story behind: We are expecting heavy winds with whole gale in the gusts. Better to lay down the sign in a controlled way than let the storm do it uncontrolled.
Something a bit different from me. A black and white frame from Dungeness, a place that feels like both paradise and punishment for photographers. The landscape looks simple at first glance but it demands patience, walking, and a trained eye to uncover strong compositions. This old boat caught my attention after a long wander, weathered, scarred, and slowly disappearing due to vandalism over time. It is sad to see these beautiful subjects fade away, but that impermanence also adds character and meaning to every shot. When everything finally lines up, the reward is a frame that feels earned, the kind that makes the hard work completely worth it.

Just Sitting Here why do you ask? Prissy being a bit sheepish because she isn't supposed to be on the printer, just being a cat, shot in North Carolina.

Bit of macro Monday for me today.
I found this magnificent PCB at work a while back, freed from an old server destined for the scrapheap in the ground.
I seated my tilt adapter on the macro rings with the Helios 44-2 on that.
I love how the tilt adapter mixed with a macro setup and colour choice make this look like an industrial scene in the depths of winter. The small chips look like cars lined up in a carpark and the covering of dust simulates a harsh frost beautifully.
Single long exposure light art.
Catch you tomorrow.
A bit of sunshine now and then allowed me to capture this pretty Rose in contrejour, this morning. The late season Rose isn't as big and beautiful as the Spring Rose, of course but it still adds colour and joy to the garden and its perfume always is as enjoyable :) /
A bit of creative cropping left the sunset reflection on the water but not in the sky. There were lots of clouds that night, but above them, there was a setting sun that turned the water that red color. I liked the effect of the closer crop.
A shot from spring at Cwm Idwal. A bit of sunshine on Llyn Idwal with Pen-yr-Ole-Wen in the background.

This valley provide access to Handies Peak (a 14ner) out of frame above and to the left. This is still a favorite place of mine to share with people and (of course) to take photos. And yes, to just stand and take it all in. From higher up on the trail there are many wide-angle views of the surrounding mountains (W, N, and E.) This view is to the south.
I've already shared an early fall snow scene from a similar vantage point. To give it a bit of perspective, at the very bottom (right of center) are some people standing along the stream that descends from snow and Sloan Lake, an "alpine tundra" lake I've shared a pic of here on Flickr.

I now have plenty of sandhill crane photos. Since the light level was pretty dark anyway, I decided to play with shutter speed and blur a bit.
Yesterday I posted to Substack a bit of writing (and audio) about why we embrace the imperfections of film photography.
Few things exemplify that as much as expired film developed in ECN-2. Here, there's color shifts and probably some odd development quirks. There are white specks all over it as well, though I don't remember why.
I shot this in 2021 and developed it that autumn. I don't know why it took me this long to share it. Probably because of the specks and shifts.
These imperfections, well, looks like I haven't quite embraced them. But it's still kind of a cool photo. And a wonderful place.

Bit of a sombre tone today, not well and really not enjoying being stuck at home for the next 7 days but at least I have company unlike this little guy.

Spendin' all your weekends flyin' up the east coast
Wanderin' 'round the city, tryna shake my ghost
I wonder if she knows
You just can't let me go
You're learnin' a new body, a new face, a new routine
But you know you screwed up and you know she'll never be me
I wonder if she knows
The lengths that you go
Just to call it love, boy
You know it ain't love, boy
We know who you love, boy
So call it what you want
She's your new distraction (Distraction)
Tryna break an old habit (Distraction)
She's your new distraction (Distraction)
And I'm your old habit, yeah (Distraction)
To tell you how you feel about her ain't my place
But I find it strange that everything about you's changed
From the little bit that I know
That's not how it's supposed to go
Just to call it love, boy
You know it ain't love, boy
We know who you love, boy
So call it what you want
She's your new distraction (Distraction)
Tryna break an old habit (Distraction)
She's your new distraction (Distraction)
And I'm your old habit, yeah, yeah
I hope you fall, I hope it's true
I hope it is, I do
But I don't believe it, don't think you do either
So don't pretend like you do (Distraction)
Oh, no, like you do (Distraction)
Oh, like you do, baby
Yeah, you call it love, boy
But you ain't foolin' love, boy
We know who you love
Yeah, she's your new distraction (Distraction)
Tryna break an old habit (Distraction)
She's your new distraction (Distraction)
And I'm your old habit
I hope you fall, I hope it's true
I hope it is, I do

Getting a bit of later start than usual, the Night Gas gets underway westbound as afternoon thunderstorms build over the mountains around Missoula. Wish I'd put on a bit heavier of a lens to bring in the mountains a bit more, but given how the first 8 days of the trip had gone anything by this point was just bonus materials.
Another bit of flash photography due to our recent inclement weather, I caught this Great Tit in such a position that it looks as if its hiding behind its wing...now you see me, now you don't! ;)

A bit more Photoshop pattern play, the colour palette determined by the music that was playing at the time, which happened to be a live version of the old Pink Floyd tune "Green Is The Colour" by Nick Mason’s band Saucerful of Secrets.
Nick Mason was the drummer for Pink Floyd of course, and it’s great to see him still playing and touring at nearly 78 years of age. Other members of Saucerful of Secrets you may know are long time Floyd tour band member and bassist Guy Pratt and Gary Kemp vocalist and guitarist from Spandau Ballet.
Saucerful of Secrets was formed to breath new life into a lot of the older Floyd tunes and it really is worth a watch - excellent stuff if you’re a Floyd fan, and worth a try even if you’re not.
"Green Is The Colour" was the fifth track on Pink Floyd's 1969 album More. It was composed and written by Roger Waters and the original sung by David Gilmour.
Here’s "Green is the Colour" live at The Roundhouse in London.

This is the view of the top floor of the structure next to Wind Tree in the Winyard Quarter on Auckland's waterfront.
It is a strange structure but certainly has some nice lines. I watched the Matariki lights on the bridge from up here. I totally expected there to be lots of people, I was mistaken.
Bit of a blow out this morning.
Turned up, got this shot quite quickly. Then the heavens opened and it became clear very quickly that I was totally unprepared for it. Wet camera, wet lenses, wet filters and wet me.
To top the morning off as I was walking back to the car I dropped my camera on concrete. Surprisingly its mostly fine. A little dent/chip of paint lost. Certainly could have been much worse.
But anyway, at least I got one shot.
It's been a bit quiet on the drawing front recently, but I'm getting my mojo back. Drawn from a photo by Paul Fine
