A bit of a fail this evening back on the macro tip.
Whilst I quite like the shot here it is a single frame of the 20 odd I photographed but try as I might I couldn't get them to merge in ps.
I suppose a cactus is a rather challenging subject to focus stack due to the fine nature of the spines paired with all the different directions the plane of focus falls.
That's what this is all about and I shall be back again for another go.
The same trail as in the previous photo - just a bit further up. There is a big house in the distance - a villa, we call that - with a lovely view over meadows and coppices. All in a nature reserve in one of the suburbs of Bruges.
A bit of sunshine now and then allowed me to capture this pretty Rose in contrejour, this morning. The late season Rose isn't as big and beautiful as the Spring Rose, of course but it still adds colour and joy to the garden and its perfume always is as enjoyable :) /

La Rose d'arriere saison n'est pas aussi grosse, ni aussi belle que la Rose de Printemps, bien sur mais elle continue a ajouter de la couleur et de la joie au jardin et son parfum reste magnifique :)

There were a couple of groups of people on Waterloo bridge the night before last trying to get this shot with mobile phones who asked me to send a photograph of the view - so here it is

It's always a little bit risky to wake up in order to catch a sunrise when the sky is covered, especially when you have to walk/dirve an hour before reaching a good spot. However, it can worth the risk because a cloudy sunrise is generaly much more dramatic than a perfect clear one.
That's what I thought this morning (and to be honest, I think it's always worthy to wake up ;) ). I drove to the beautiful Creux-du-Van (one of my favorite place for sunrise). Unfortunatly, there was alreay a full stuffed guy (with 5Dm3, lee filters everywhere, and so one) where I planed to be ... Moreover, the sky was too cloudy and even if the sunrise was not that bad, the light itself was quite cold.
I was kind of discouraged when suddenly, I saw this young ibex lying down in the rocks : I could not believe my eyes at the first place: it was so close ! I removed my wide-angle and took a zoom very slowly in order not to frithend it. Then, I realised that I could have danced a rain dance (which could have succeeded !), it would not moved an ear. It was not wild at all and let me take as much pictures as I wanted as he wandered and ate grass here and there. So that's what I did for more than an hour. (I guess it was a kind of "Wildlife Photography for Dummies" session)
It's very impressive to see how ibex do not fear height and walk on the steep rocks as if they were flat.
So yes, it was worth waking up, but not for the reasons I expected, which is even better.

This is Gabe. You might observe that his left eye looks a bit odd... It is. That's his good eye. The one hidden from view is... let's just say it's seriously damaged. He's been nearly blind from birth, but don't tell him, he doesn't know, and he functions remarkably well, even with his limited vision. This was taken the day a new kitten arrived in the house, and he's scoping out the new guy from a safe distance. Within six hours, they were asleep on the same couch. They're best buddies now.

Was another chance at a pretty sunset this cold evening so headed down to my sister's house along Middle River. With temperatures below freezing, by the time I finished taking photos for around 15 minutes, my hands were quite cold ... but it was worth it.
While this sunset was not as 'epic' as the sunset on December 7th, it was still very pretty, though a bit more wind kept the river from having a mirror reflection ... the wave patterns here are pretty though.
Being around the winter solstice as well the setting sun aligns well with the bench on the right while standing on the pier.
A fresh Happy Bench Monday captured this evening.

Bit desperate for a shot today again, Storm Austen has made it very wet here today, plus time was limited as Oldmangellyroo had an appointment at the hospital this morning. Fortunately there was a brief lull, so bravely I shot out into the garden, got on my knees and fired off a few quick shots, muddying said knees in the process - I don't stay clean for long!
Evie on a walk last week, we had sunshine for a bit!
Flickr is pretty slow for me & pages don't always load properly, tired of seeing "We're having some trouble displaying your feed at the moment. Please try again" :(

A bit of brightness on a grey and windy day.
I love Ranunculus, densely layered, and this bloom opened beautifully, not always evident, their stems are extremely delicate and do tend to just collapse before the bud can open into a gorgeous voluptuous bloom...
For years I 'experimented' in the studio, to get that Flemish painter's light?
Well, I was born in Flanders, it must be in my blood? LOL.

For Macro Mondays 'Initials' theme - this is my very first and very recently acquired marathon medal. One of the few things I'm actually quite proud of, worked very hard for a 4:33:41 finish. The initial ABP is for Associated British Ports, the title sponsors.
Bit of a Throwback Thursday shot here, (though only to 2013). On a beautiful, clear morning, Indiana Rail Road's 25th Anniversary unit, SD90/43MAC 9025, leads an empty coal train south on the Midland Sub towards Bear Creek Mine near Dugger, Indiana.
Went for a wander in Abbeyford Woods with my friend Fran (who managed to get us lost ... which was rather amusing) ... the light wasn't great and avoiding copious amounts of dog poop meant I didn't get a great deal of interesting images ... but I love this one :D
Think I used the Takumar 55mm ... but to be honest I forget :D

Freshly ground coffee in a filter, waiting to be brewed.
The beans I used are a lighter roast and much less oily than what I normally buy, but still quite aromatic. Still, the end result was enjoyable, if not as bold as what I'm used to.
Another bit of flash photography due to our recent inclement weather, I caught this Great Tit in such a position that it looks as if its hiding behind its wing...now you see me, now you don't! ;)

I was a bit startled to look from my second story porch in the mountains and find this rather large beauty looking back. I am afraid to say he might have been hoping to make a meal of one of my many hummingbirds that frequently alights on the limbs of this beech tree. He was up about 15 feet above the ground and I decided to let nature take its course and hope for the best.
Found this info online:
"The eastern ratsnake varies in color and pattern. Most are striped, but one variant is sometimes referred to as “black ratsnake” because of its mainly black coloration. These snakes are common throughout the eastern US, although the black color variant does not occur in Florida. This snake can be quite large (it may exceed six feet in length) and has slightly keeled scales (raised ridge along the middle of each scale). Its back is almost entirely black (small flecks of whitish color may show through the black), whereas its chin and belly have a lot of white markings. They are excellent climbers and are found in a great variety of habitats, ranging from pine forests to agricultural fields. They feed primarily on rodents, birds, and birds' eggs."
Bit of a blow out this morning.
Turned up, got this shot quite quickly. Then the heavens opened and it became clear very quickly that I was totally unprepared for it. Wet camera, wet lenses, wet filters and wet me.
To top the morning off as I was walking back to the car I dropped my camera on concrete. Surprisingly its mostly fine. A little dent/chip of paint lost. Certainly could have been much worse.
But anyway, at least I got one shot.
We were exploring a little village whose name I forget now when we saw this gushing water and a long low building, really no more than a roof built on the ground. We were puzzled as to what this could be and Anita wondered if the water was cold. It was.
A bit later the owner of the little "Mom and Pop" store told us it was a spring and that people came from all over to get water from it. I was happy to learn it Was a spring and not... you know something to do with sewage~ LOL
Still adding album fodder, it's a big album with over eighty photo's in it.. The photo's are in the order that they was taken..
Up above Hartsop, a great place to hike.
A bit of monsoonal rain on the north coast of Trinidad island, Maracas Bay lookout, nothing spectacular, but this will be my only upload from that island as photo opportunities were very rare. It's also as close as my ass will ever get to Venezuela!
