Manchester on a wet and gloomy day, with this art installation adding a splash of colour. There are five of these sculptures showing lamps through the ages, designed by Acrylicize studio.

It turned out to be a glorious day, but unfortunately Graham fell while out and the Pompiers took him off to Lannion to the Emergency Department for a check up.
Everything OK, other than a grazed knee but it put a stop on photo taking for me for today.

A bit of a 'slow news day' so I did a bit of messing around with this one.
The original was one of those types, not good enough to be 'good', but not poor enough to be 'absolutely terrible'. When you're running out of photos, and need to get out and shoot more, you clutch at whatever straws you can.
So, I've tried to squeeze all I can out of it.
It's black and white, with tone mapping and 'dodge and burn'.
That, my friends, can turn 'c-r-a-p' into 'a-r-t'.

Germany celebrates 30 years of german unity this year..
On this day 30 years ago the DDR (East Germany) and BRD (West Germany) became one Germany again
Being raised during the cold-war periode, I visited the former border near the Brocken many times but was never able to cross the border.
Finally we could cross the border after the Iron Curtain came down
We visited the Harz region again in October 1990 during the first days after Germany was one country again.
Still many things that reminded of the old border were visible even after the fall in 1989
We literally could go through the opened (iron) curtain and hiked to the Brocken Summit and we were not alone. It looked like a pilgrimage.
Used Ilford HP5 and a Pentax P30 with some SMC Pentax A lenses back in those days
Developing was done with Ilford Microphen in a darkroom at a local newspaper back in 1990 where my father used to work.

A 'new' bit of 'old' railway has been created near Pleck Junction at Walsall, as Network Rail has created what is known as 'Up Dudley Siding' to enable merry-go-round trains to and from Rugeley Power Station to run round instead of having to use nearby Bescot yard with the attendant operational issues. The siding is situated on what was the old 'South Staffordshire Line' from Pleck Junction via Dudley to Stourbridge which was 'mothballed' some years ago.On 8th April 2015 Freightliner Heavy hall service 6M66 0349 Immingham Import Terminal-Rugeley Power Station has just arrived in the loop and Class 66/6 No. 66616 has just detached ahead of running round the train. The head shunt is located just before the line passes beneath the M6 Motorway, roughly where No. 66616 is presently standing. Meanwhile, on the mainline from Besot, London Midland Class 350 No. 350231 approaches with 2A11 0850 Wolverhampton-Walsall via Birmingham New Street. Copyright John Whitehouse - all rights reserved

Trying to get that rotated E looking half decent whilst retaining that distinctive angle proved to be quite a challenge.
A nice little 8x8 chunk of some of Manchester's finest architecture, given the Orton treatment and a hilarious geek pun thrown in for free. I'll be at the Frog and Bucket all next week.

I woke up earlier than expected for a Saturday morning after such an intense Friday... knowing my little sister was working The Ranch, I called her to see when her [brief] "lunch" was... and arranged to meet her for breakfast!
