Found this little claw next to the trail, not far from the Wisconsin. Leftover lunch I suppose. Plenty of otters, raccoons, mink and fishers that probably all love a tasty crayfish now and again.
Bit of a grab shot coming back from the pub on a misty evening in Amsterdam - it ended up with an interesting vintage look
Bit of a shorter exposure for a change, as I wanted to capture some of the water flow around these rocks at Bude. Had the wide angle lens on and was trying to get as low and as close to the surf as possible.
Backfired though, as after taking this shot I was too busy looking through the wiewfinder to guage the size of the rather large wave approaching. Got a bit of a shock when it broke just below my waist and filled my wellies with water - camera got a light soaking but managed to grab the tripod in time and hold it above the water!
I can laugh about it now, but luckily there was no one else in earshot to hear me rattle off just about every expletive under the sun in one rather long outburst!
Bit of a surprise this one. Having seen Scotrail 156502 running an ECS past Margam last Friday, I was a bit surprised to see Barbie 156465 working the Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly local service across the Hope Valley, normally the task of a 142 or 150.

During the days test runs between Darlington and York the world diesel speed record was achieved with power cars 43102 and 43159.

Since I only had 114 photos to work with, this time slice image came out a little choppy, but I kind of like the look of it. It reminds me of the 16-bit graphics in the video games I played as a kid.
So I've had a bit of a emotional wobble recently (hence no new pics for little while), well certainly since returning from Berlin. At the heart of it is the realisation that after almost 3 years of aiming for this day, it's now around 12 weeks away and I'm about to take the most momentous step in my life.
In all this time I've never had a single doubt that this is who I should be, but a couple of less than helpful remarks (or was it an overdose of ice-cream in Berlin!) and it triggered the whole 'am I doing this for the right reasons' questioning.
Sometimes it's good to question yoursef, it's so easy to get locked in to an echo chamber where everything is confirmed.
Mum and I have talked almost daily since these questions, for a time, overwhelmed me and she helped me see not just my future but also my past in a different light. She's told me when I was very young, pre school, I spent alot of time dressed if not feminine, then certainly ambiguously and with my long blonde hair I was often mistaken for a little girl. I think I've always been female without necessarily having the vocabulary to express that feeling to another person.
Anyways I'm feeling more sure than ever that all that I've done and plan on doing to my body is 100% right for me.
Whilst I'm no professional, if anyone out there is having similar doubts or insecurities don't be afraid to send me a message.

There's a bit of a story to this one, I crossed from the other side of the brook to this side to get a better shot. I slipped and fell backwards into the brook. I had the Hasselblad in my left hand and while I fell, all I could think was "Not the camera! Not the camera!" so I held it up high while I clambered out onto the bank. Then I thought "Might as well take the damn picture first," so I took this picture standing there dripping, soaked from the neck down.
I thought I had succeeded in keeping the camera dry, but as you can see in the previous picture, some water got into the film magazine, it ruined half the film. Oh well.
Then I looked down and saw that my shoulder bag was also quite wet. I'd fallen on top of it, it had been fully submersed. I opened it and took out my Zeiss Makro-Planar 120 mm lens. I took off the lens cap and buckets of water just poured out of the lens itself. Bummer.
When I got back home a week later, our expert Hasselblad repair guy Will van Manen (highly recommended) diagnosed the shutter/aperture combo a total loss, but the glass was OK, so he replaced the shutter. Luckily, the lens is now like brand new.

This was taken on a cruise ship while en route to the South Pacific in late December last year. After soon discovering that there was a photography contest on the boat for pictures captured on the trip, my family persuaded me into entering this one.
A few days later, my photograph was awarded as one of the three runner up's in the contest - what a pleasing result!
