*well sand eels anyway
An odd crop on this as it was right out at the edge of the frame - tricky little blighters to track well.
Press L - Z maybe too far.
A few of the snow geese there that day lifting off the water about 1/2 mile away on the far side of the refuge with one of many muskrat mounds in the lower part of the photo.
Only about 123,000 migrating snow geese the day I was there which was down about 30,000 from the previous week. Low numbers for this time of year. Still fun to watch and hear. The ones there were scattered in several locations and most on the far sides of the refuge. Not as much water with the moderate drought there. Hoping more arrive, but if not, the big migration is the return in the Spring. Not happy with the quality of these photos but saving to albums.
UPDATE 11-23-20: Snow geese numbers have dropped to only 102,000 now so it may be next Spring before numbers go back up. Still hoping. Eagle count went up from 56 to 122 and trumpeter swans from 558 to 642, so that is good news!

Red kites have a rusty reddish-brown body with a deeply forked tail. Their head is pale grey and patterned with dark streaks, and they have a yellow beak with a dark hook and pale, striking eyes.
Their angular wings span 185cm. On the upper side they are red-brown at the shoulders with darker tips and edges, while underneath there are characteristic blocks of white before darker, fingered wing tips.
Grey catbird.

I hate when I haven't been able to get out and seek my preferred sort of photograph -- landscapes. It's been almost a week and that's too long! But, digging into files from the previous week I find I do have lots of stuff there. Especially if I play around with the processing like in this attempt at something creative.

I wanted to take his photograph and he didn't want me to, so he left.
