Team members of the RIPE project transplanting seedlings for the 2016 field trials. RIPE is engineering crops that more efficiently turn the sun's energy into food. This project could increase yields by as much as 60% to help smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia feed their communities and provide for their families.

This laboratory think tank is not only for the innovation of biotechnology but also brings in the public to experience and learn about how biotechnology works and affects their lives. The Center uses “WAVES” as both the conceptual and physical representation of the workflow of a scientific experiment. Laboratory work is about thinking, sharing, and repetitiveness, which is presented as the “WAVES” that communicate and influence each other.
