This portrait is only made with "flat circles" on a black background. Every circle has a single color, a single tone and a single size. I placed each circle one by one. It's a time consuming method. Please see some details, the work in progress and other portraits here below. If you wish, you can also view this making of my portrait of Elvis Presley (video) to understand how I'm exploiting this technique with circles...

Seattle lies on a narrow strip of land between the salt waters of Puget Sound and the fresh waters of Lake Washington. Beyond the waters lie two rugged mountain ranges, the Olympics to the west and the Cascades to the east. It is a city built on hills and around water, in a mild marine climate that encourages prolific vegetation and abundant natural resources.
White settlers came to the Seattle area in 1851, establishing a townsite they first called New York, and then, adding a word from the Chinook jargon meaning "by-and-by," New York-Alki. They soon moved a short distance across Elliott Bay to what is now the historic Pioneer Square district, where a protected deep-water harbor was available. This village was soon named Seattle, honoring a Duwamish Indian leader named Sealth who had befriended the settlers.

There is Jim Pattison in Vancouver. This is like Bill Gates in US or Li Ka Shing in Hong Kong. These are super-rich individuals or families who control large capital or net worth at least $10 billion (you may use USD currency for easy understanding).
How much is $10 billion?
If you win a $50 million lottery weekly, it will take you 4 years for you to accumulate the wealth of $10 billion. Or you are a high pay executive with annual salary of $5 million and your employer pays all your taxes and living expenses, it will take you 2,000 years to accumulate the wealth of $10 billion.
One of the characteristics for large capital is fast growth. It is very difficult for a person with $500 net worth to grow the value by 5% in a year. However it is much easier for large capital of $10 billion or business in the same size to grow 10%. or even 20% or 30% a year in the corporate capital market.
The large capital or super-rich is the fundamental of modern day capitalism and it is also part of the reasons for income inequality, people falling into poverty and social polarization.
This is long story.
I do think social critique is a less popular (or boring) genre of street photography nowadays. I would like to have comments and opinions.
Have a great day!

BANANA in ya face!
Quotes:
“I'm getting so old, I don't even buy green bananas anymore.” - Juan "Chi Chi" Rodriguez:) LOL
“Intellectual property has the shelf life of a banana.” -Bill "Gazillianaire" Gates:)
“On a traffic light green means go and yellow means yield, but on a banana it's just the opposite. Green means hold on, yellow means go ahead, and red means where the hell did you get that banana at...” -Mitch Hedberg:)

Bill Gates is a big believer in online education.
Gates organized a TED session this year and brought Salman Khan, an educator that left his job as a hedge fund analyst to pursue online video education, now reaching 1 million students per month.
“The first feedback came from my cousins. They told me that they preferred me on YouTube than in person.”
“And so you can imagine, so here I was, an analyst at a hedge fund. It was very strange for me to do something of social value.”
“If Isaac Newton had done YouTube videos on calculus, I wouldn’t have to.
well.. assuming he was good.”
In an interesting flip to the traditional classroom script, teachers can assign the videos and interactive online exercises for home and do what used to be homework in the classroom.
“By removing the one-size-fits all lecture from the classroom and letting students do work and interact with each other in class, these teachers have used technology to humanize the classroom.”
The TED talk just went online, with Q&A with Gates at the end, who concludes: “You just got a glimpse at the future of education.”
Created this for a blog article.

What a contrast this is with the University Combination Room! What I want to demonstrate, however, is that Cambridge is both historic and modern. Perhaps the contrast of the really old and the new is too much for some, but, then, this is 2008. The word "Cambridge" may only conjure up images of the the ancient but it is, believe me, also a new city:-) I'm fast-forwarding from the historic Combination Room depicted in the previous photos to the slick Common Room of the (Bill, of course) Gates Scholars at the University Centre. What the two places have in common is that both have (highly) restricted access. Watch out for two more shots from "the secret Gates" :-)
I think it's fair to say that personal computers have become the most empowering tool we've ever created. They're tools of communication, they're tools of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user. -- Bill Gates
A picture like this one is the reason why it is so hard for me to delete any picture. Like all of you (or most), not every picture I take is good!!! (I confess!)
I had taken a macro picture of frost on a window because I had spotted the tree-like design. But when I looked at it on my computer screen, I realized that it was not as sharp as i would have liked (see original picture below). But, I still liked the image, so I decided to play around to see what I could do. And here is the result.
What do you think?

Day 301 of the 365 Journey
The Fifth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me:
FIVE MONTHS OF BILLS
The Economy this year SUCKS! We’ve pretty much decided if we can’t afford to pay for it with cash…….we just won’t buy it! I think as I’ve grown older I’ve realized that although my wish lists are always long (new camera gear), I’m truly happy with everything I currently already have. Christmas is going to be nice and small this year. My Sister, brother and sister in law are all coming home two days before Christmas. In all honesty, having my whole family home for Christmas is all I really want. Don’t get me wrong, when that PS3 get’s opened on Christmas morning I won’t be taking it back or anything; I’m just saying that I love my family and that’s all I need.
Side note: We went to see NEW MOON for Suzanne’s Bday. OMG that movie was plain awful. Seeing as how I went to see it with three very hardcore Twilight fanatics who like myself HATED it, I feel comfortable in my opinion. I went in with an open mind and was harshly disappointed because there’s no way on earth I can ever get those two hours and forty-five minutes back. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie with such bad acting and dialog. I’m usually pretty good with romantic movies, however after that abysmal disappointment I need a nice action flick to cheer me up!
