Chhatris are an integral part of Rajasthan’s architecture. In many parts of the state, you may come across a cluster of Chhatris in an uninhabited location outside the town. There are usually Cenotaphs, built in memory of the kings. Here is one such cluster of Chhatris outside Bikaner town, called Devi kund sagar.

I truly loved the light of this place. It was so hot outside, and so dark and fresh inside. I could not wait to shoot a serie of pictures to the food and to the people preparing meal and roti. This is one of them.

Karni Mata Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Karni Mata at Deshnoke, 30 km from Bikaner, in Rajasthan, India. It is also known as the Temple of Rats.

The temple is famous for the approximately 25,000 black rats that live, and are revered, in the temple. These holy rats are called kabbas, and many people travel great distances to pay their respects. The temple draws visitors from across the country for blessings, as well as curious tourists from around the world.

Legend has it that Laxman, son of Karni Mata , drowned in a pond in Kapil Sarovar in Kolayat Tehsil while he was attempting to drink from it. Karni Mata implored Yama, the god of death, to revive him. First refusing, Yama eventually relented, permitting Laxman and all of Karni Mata's male children to be reincarnated as rats.

It was Diwali and most shops were closed in Bikaner. He was one of the few to work and gladly accepted to pose for me.

This is how the actual Temple building looks from front on. This has been shot at 12 mm and I have just about managed to squeeze the minarets and the cupolas in alongwith a few of the people going about with their daily routine in life. The space is best shot with maybe 10 mm on a non Dx lens.

That said, I have no idea how you, the viewers, experience is with Flickr. I find the views abysmal as well as the whole experience of commenting. While it was routine for about 200-500 views within a day or two, now a days, the total views in a week can barely cross the three figure mark. On top of it, the Flickr automation for lodging the tags and titles etc to search engines seems to be suffering too. Earlier within a few hours you could find your photo on a search in google.com. Not so, now a days.

I have not been very active on your photos of late. Hopefully, I will be able to do some justice now.

With very interesting spots to visit in Bikaner, the city will get back to you old-timers. The excellence of Bikaner is the Thar Desert and the incredibly dazzling brilliant sand hills. This city is brilliant and lively and offers plenty of spots to visit in Bikaner. The rich social legacy is related to Bikaner since its foundation in the year 1488 AD. Rao Bika Ji, a Rajput ruler who was an incredible warrior, built up the city. The city is all around respected for its antiquated sanctuaries, castles and substantially more.
