A Penguin about to do something interesting.....but then deciding against it. Maybe they have telepathic powers, and could sense my disappointment that they weren't King Penguins....

What is wrong with Flickr????? It takes ages to load contact's photos - so long that I do not have time to wait endeless minutes to go through all my contacts images to make comments.

Sorry if I miss some contacts from time to time because of this painfully slow process.

I'm afraid I will not be on Flickr much until this ridiculous problem is sorted out.

It used to be fast and efficient - now it's just a pain in the butt!

This painting was regrettably eventually painted over as originally it was an exploding cannon on a bloody battlefield, but it all went horribly wrong - just like Flickr - and I scrubbed out the middle wondering what to do with it next. Then I sanded and re-prepared the canvas and painted over it. Maybe

I should have kept it as 'The Black Hole' !

I think with hindsight it was a regrettable error to obliterate the whole picture :-((((((((

Sometimes artists do silly things.

I'll be on and off from now on until Flickr gets its act together.

For Strobist Sundays: Splash

DIY lightbox: daylight bulbs right, left, and top thru white sports nylon.

Nikon SB-24 camera left, splash level, lowest power

I shot this on blue and ended up hating it so: Background recolored in PS

After three days of trying different setups, different subjects, and different substances in pursuit of a splash I could be happy with; dragging every member of the household including the dogs into some sort of position of assistance, and making a mess in almost every room of the house including the garage I can honestly say that even tho I still am not happy I'm done.

I will never, EVER do this again.

Unless, of course, I ever get a second flash. LOL

Happy SS kids ~ Hope you all had a great weekend.

I rarely take pictures of the south side of town because of its ugly architecture, in particular the Town Hall which is that hideous block which doesn't blend in too gracefully with its surroundings!

When I first came to Ålesund there was a wonderful bird rock there covered with nesting kittiwakes. It was totally unique and was the only rock of its kind in the world to be found in the centre of a town. Absolutely something worth preserving for posterity? They couldn't wait to dynamite it away and replace it with a another home for a different kind of squawker! Nuff said!

"Big Mistake - Many Make - Rely On Horn - Not On Break" - Burma Shave

This pinhole image was taken at Hackbury Trading Post. Burma Shave was famous for its advertising by way of these roadside "staggered" signs, all with a rhyming poignant message.

Our photo club leader Jacky has this idea of swimsuit model shooting. I am a learner and always willing to try on the new subject. But not until I try this, I wouldn't know how hard it is.

This is a typical summer shooting idea. The main issue is that the summer sunlight is very harsh. We tried to struggle with the extremely harsh and bright sunlight by many ways. We used reflector and back lighting. At least for me, the result is not promising. The model was squinting and we can understand the hardship around all these.

There is absolutely no shade in the Iona Beach area, the location for our shoot.

No matter what angle and viewpoint you take, there is still hard shadow on the model and I believe if we use fill flash, we may make the squinting even worse.

And I also made a big mistake. That is my bad habit with portrait shots. I always focus and pay attention to the facial expressions. I think most people will check on the body and pose (finding a better and flattering angle to show the figure and curves in the body) before they click the shutter for a swimsuit model shot. I totally missed on this.

Anyway I will admit I was not the type for swimsuit shooting. I also have too much preference on black & white tones over natural skin tones. :o(

Thank you for the kind cooperation of Ashley under the harsh light and heat during the entire session.

Happy Tuesday!

That this site has become controversial because of ideology and religion combined is beyond my wildest imagination.

Never, ever, did I or millions of others ever even contemplate that such controversy would arise atop the ashes of those slain on that infamous and dastardly day. That a memorial that is fit and proper has not been built is the fault of the individuals who were in charge of governmental projects in NYC, beginning with Mayor Rudy and Mayor Bloomberg.

Surely, there must have been a hint in the wind that such controversy would take place if the area was left for commercial brokers to bargain about. Where were those in charge of memorial funds when they caught the odor of such a "believe it or not" kind of project? None of this would be happening had there been brighter minds in charge.

If there was as many folks upset about flags being burned as religious books, there might be some hope for patriotism in the USA. Personally, I do not even feel like listening to the news anymore. When the last WWII veteran dies, this country will pretty much be finished. It is no longer a country when people have to be threatened by ideologies; it is a sad day when the executive branch takes sides on some issues and turns its head on others. I would not want to be starting a life in America if I had to do it all over again. I would find a nation where common sense reigned supreme. I could go on, but it is a waste of your time and mine.

It seemed that today nothing went right, so it was perfect day to shoot this one.

Route 66 old publicity.

"Burma-Shave was an American brand of brush-less shaving cream, famous for its advertising gimmick of posting humorous rhyming poems on small sequential highway roadside signs. This use of a series of small signs, each of which bore part of a commercial message, was a successful approach to highway advertising during the early years of highway travel, drawing the attention of passing motorists who were curious to learn the punchline." She stuck her head into a small garbage can and came away with more than she bargained for...

Chili fries and a toddler. This was one of the largest messes/mistakes I have seen. You can just imagine!

Eric shows off his headband, his new "Big Mistake" t-shirt and, of course, his fantastic mustache.

Although he looks like he is playing air hockey in the 1970s, he is actually just hanging out at our office.

Olympic Stadium, or "Big Mistake" was designed by the french architect Roger Taillibert and built for the Olympics in 1976, but until 1987, 11 years later, the tower and roof were completed.

It's the largest by seating capacity in Canada and it's also known as a white elephant because of it's financial and structural problems. $ 134 million was the initial cost, but the total expediture (incluiding repairs, renovations, interests and inflation) was $ 1.61 billion, making it the second more expensive stadium ever built in the world.

There were strikes, a large fire that set the tower ablaze, a large chunk of the tower fell into the field during a game. When the retractable roof was finally installed, it was plagued by further rips and leaks during storms. In 1991 support beams snapped and caused a 55 long-ton concrete slab to fall on to a exterior walkaway. Then they removed the retractable roof, to have an open-air stadium. In 1998 they installed a new roof that didn't open. In 1999 a portion of the roof collapsed during a Montreal Auto Show. A slab of concrete (8 x 10 mts) fell from the roof of the stadium's underground parking in march 2012. =O

When Emperor Palpatine petitioned for volunteers for Wildlife Rehabilitators for the Death Star Petting Zoo, once again Stormtrooper Bruce jumps at the opportunity to shine in the Emperor's eyes.

Never in his wildest dreams did he ever imagine he'd wind up caring for these creatures. Not only can he not pronounce their name, he can't even pronounce the name of the planet they're from.

STB: If I ever sign up for anything else the Emperor is asking for volunteers for, do me a favor and just shove me out the nearest airlock. OK?

TK-432: help

Two days before this was taken the floor had been swept and vacuumed. There were some muddy dog walks in between, but I'm here to preach this very simple message:

Don't get dark floors.

You'll regret it.

I do.

Everyday.

The venue was the Richmond Knights of Colombus house (lodge? building? I'm not sure what it was technically called)

Anyway, it was an awesome venue.

Here was my table for the Poker tournament. I had the privilege of sitting next to the groom himself...and his chain. We were quite proud of Scott for keeping it on this long.

Hopefully if I post this late at night no one will see it and I can bury it by morning!! ;p

....or I could turn it into my icon for a day, for a little light amusement, to cover flickr with pink cowboy hats......Yay!!! :D

Upon leaving from Singapore to Phnom Penh, I ordered a taxi from the concierge at the Trader´s hotel.

I paid directly to the hotel, the very same amount as upon arrival and thought I would get one of the hotel´s own cars.

What the concierge did not tell me was that he realised that we were five persons with a lot of luggage so he called another guy instead of the regular ones.

Plenty of room for all of us and plenty of room for all the luggage.

After ten minutes drive I started to chat with the driver and called his car a "taxi".

Big mistake.

The driver´s mood changed so to speak.

I spent almost the rest of the trip out to Changi airport listening to the driver, explaining to me the difference between a taxi and his car, referred to as a limousine.

I lost my mobile telephone today. Feeling so bad with myself. I did not have a backup of the data that was in it. I had a hope that who ever find it, will give it back to me. Sometime I trust are humans more that the usual. I am an optimistic persona, so I think always the best of our kind. That is so bad...

A closeup of my very carefully charted intarsia plan.

Oh, silly, silly me. There I was, novice knitter (read: I knew how to knit, how to purl, how to join for rounds. No inc/dec action, no cables, no lace...and I was erroneously knitting all my stitches through the back loop) and I felt it was a FABOO idea to not only give intarsia a try...but to do it in the round. Here's where I started. Armed with a 10.5US 16" circ, bobbins, and some TLC Lustre...I dropped it all in my lap over a New Kids on the Block comforter (property of my die-hard fan friend AL) and went to town...having no idea the horrors that would await me in the future of this scarf.

Perhaps the worst (and one of the most expensive mistakes) you can make with a boat...running aground.

On Nick's tatoo sleeve. That's a gargoyle...

This was a mistake. I drew some rough stuff for the band Flesh and Blood Robot. Didnt finish much of it, and that mixed with some of my other work that ended up in their hands - they made their album art! I was surprised when I saw it printed needless to say...
