We're Here looks at Soil & Dirt today and I suppose you should have expected something like this.

Saul: I guess I'm not the only one having a problem with these chairs.

Sgt Danbo: I'm not much good for sitting. At least I can stand on it to get a little closer to you. Look, we need to talk.

Saul: What's up?

Sgt Danbo: I just wanted to let you know that I may have to say some things that might seem rude or dishonest to your client. I had to bend a few rules and distort the facts in order to get the approval for Ms Gonza to be held here at the Mental Health Unit. Chief Garfield and my colleagues, DS Latte and DI Dipstick, can't know that I heard Groot speak.

Saul: I was wondering about that. Does Scar know you're soft on her?

Sgt Danbo: (blushing) Uh, soft? No, not soft. I just can't believe she's a murderer. She seems so sweet and gentle. I read through the case notes and the whole situation seems messed up.

Saul: It can be hard to be objective sometimes. Things are not always what they seem, but I do agree with you. I'm looking into the details of her case. It's good to know she's got an ally on the force. Would you like me to put in a good word for you?

Sgt Danbo: Oh, no--please don't say anything. I don't want her to feel any pressure. We'll see how things go. Just let me know if I can help with anything she needs.

Saul: Will do.

Episode 34 of The Great Escape

Based on AMC's Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul

Dr Kyle has invited Scar's lawyer, Saul Goodman, to join their latest session.

Dr Kyle: Let's recap your last session, Scar. You were attacked by a dog while walking your pet pig, Kevin Bacon. Even under hypnosis you've blocked recall of the events after the dog bit your neck. You remember being naked on a metal table and then getting helped by someone to find a doctor. The police got involved with pictures and blood work. This evidence was later used against you in court.

Scar: Yes, that's it in a nutshell.

Dr Kyle: I've given this some thought and I think the blackout period is critical. I think we should consider possible scenarios.

Saul: I've been through the case files and I can't find any explanation even explored. In my opinion there are more unanswered questions than items of hard evidence. For one, there is NO BODY! All we have is the medical examiner's witness statement that there was a body that conveniently disappeared before the autopsy could be performed. The clothing purportedly removed from that body had blood on it that was proved to be yours, Scar, but you remember waking up naked, so those clothes could have been yours.

Scar: I never got a good look at those clothes, so I can't help there.

Saul: I'll see if I can get the police to share that evidence.

Dr Kyle: I'm still wondering about the metal table you remember. Is it possible you were in the morgue?

Scar: Yes, they brought that up in the trial. That's why they charged me with stealing the body.

Dr Kyle: If you stole it, what did you do with it? And why were you naked?

Saul: Well, that wasn't in the case file. The theory put forward was that she hid the body and changed into some scrubs to get rid of any evidence on her clothes. This adds credence to those clothes being hers but doesn't really help her case.

Scar: How could I have moved the body by myself?

Saul: That question isn't in the case notes.

Scar: I did ask my lawyer, but it wasn't mentioned at the trial.

Saul: Where did you find this guy?

Scar: They just assigned him to me. I didn't really think about it because I knew I wasn't guilty. It's just that there are so many unanswered questions I'm beginning to wonder if I might be.

Dr Kyle: My gut says you aren't, but my instincts have no legal sway.

Saul: There weren't many witnesses. Did anyone try to track down the dog owner? Did anyone see the attack? What happened to the pig?

Scar: Like I said, I don't remember anything after the dog bit me. My lawyer didn't find anybody, but I don't know how hard he tried.

Saul: Let me talk to the police and get back to you both.

episode 42 of The Great Escape

Practicing my Van Gogh style for an assignment. I decided to portrait two characters from one of my favorite shows. Walter White AKA Heisenberg and Saul Goodman.

Both my husband and I are fans of the television series Breaking Bad as well as Better Call Saul. So I had to get a picture of this Breaking Bad slot machine that I saw at the casino in the hotel we stayed at on our recent vacation in Laughlin, Nevada. (Posted on Instagram, my Facebook and the "Better Call Saul" group on Facebook.)

Indoor mural on east wall of a popular paletería, or ice cream shop, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The text translates "Archaeological area of Paquimé. The mural is signed, "H. Puentes 07-4."

Location: paletería La Michoacana de Paquime; 6500 Zuni Rd SE, 6:07pm

La Michoacana appeared as 'El Griego Guiñador' in 5 episodes of the Breaking Bad series Better Call Saul. A view of part of the real shopfront is here.

Paquimé is an ancient regional trade and cultural center that flourished in the 14th-15th centuries at present-day Casas Grandes in the northern México state of Chihuahua, just south of the present-day US state of New Mexico. It had significant exchange with the Southwest's Pueblo peoples. Excavated Paquimé is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sgt Danbo: This is the evidence you asked to see. You'll need to keep the bag sealed so there's no further contamination.

Scar: Oh, no. This does look like one of my outfits. I must have been wearing it when I took Kevin for a walk. I wish I could remember more.

Saul: I was expecting you to recognise it, Scar. As I said before, it doesn't really help your case. You could have easily left it behind when you changed into the scrubs.

Sgt Danbo: There's a lot of blood on it, though. If she were going to get rid of the body, wouldn't she want to get rid of the bloody clothes along with it?

Saul: What was the body wearing when it was brought in?

Sgt Danbo: I wasn't working here then. I have to go to the ME's office later so I can find out for you. Is that all you need with the clothes?

Saul: Yes, thanks. Call me later.

Scar: Thank you both. I guess it's back to my cell now. I get so bored sometimes.

episode 44 of The Great Escape

First we had Breaking Bad now we have the prequel Better Call Saul and so my Better Call Saul filming locations hunt begins. It was outside this cafe Lars and Cal accidentally troll Tuco's Abuelita. I loved Breaking Bad and so far I'm loving Better Call Saul! It's on AMC every Monday and available on Netflix the following Tuesday. Cafe Lush is a great place to eat too!

As featured in Better Call Saul. Jimmy's office is located at the back of the Day Spa & Nail. Jimmy also helps himself to free foot massages and the cucumber water when the salon is closed. It is a fully working business. Just coincidently, I get my hair cut at the owners other salon on Airport Road.

The cucumber water is for customers only :)

Went to visit one of the lesser-known Breaking Bad Universe film locations, a laundromat, and discovered it had burnt up last month. Neighborhood sentiment appears acute.

The property was built in 1948 and burned on February 17, 2024. So it stood for 76 years. The owner has said he'll rebuild.

The interior photographed thru the smoke-streaked window is here.

When I first moved to 'Burque in 1988, this was a 24-hour laundromat. I lived a few blocks away (in a building at another BB location!) and did my clothes here for a decade. I hadn't been back in years by the time it became a Wash Tub in 2003.

Location: 1105 Central Ave NW (former Route 66), Albuquerque, New Mexico 4:58pm

Breaking Bad: 1x06 "Crazy Handful of Nothin'"

Better Call Saul: 4x05 "Quite a Ride"; 4x06 "Piñata"

Albuquerque, New Mexico as seen in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. This humble spot, with its delightful dachshund sign, has been serving great footlong chili cheese dogs for over 50 years. The Dog House was one of Albuquerque's first "fast food" drive-ins, and it offered car hop service and some indoor seating. The Mead family founded it, and the Hartley family bought the restaurant in 1967 at its original location at 10th and Central Avenue. In 1969, the Dog House moved 2 blocks west on Central Avenue, America's Route 66. They still provide car hops and a handful of inside seats in a space not much larger than a shoe box, and have kept the same beloved chili recipe through the years. Frito pies, fries, and burgers with chili too. Lunch, dinner.

Albuquerque Fire Station 20, 7520 Corona Ave NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 8:12am

apropos of nothing dept.: The fire station behind this sculpture appeared in both Breaking Bad ("Ozymandias" – it's where Walt leaves baby Holly after running off with her) and Better Call Saul ("Sabrosito")

For those who don't know: John B. Robert Dam (on a w i d e view from across the street) is a famous location from Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and (tangentially) El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. Sadly, the two pathetic cottonwoods at street level, where Ed the Disappearer would pick you up to escape your old life, are now gone.

This is near the top of the baffled spillway – that's what all those standing concrete structures are: baffles for water flow. Though nobody recalls water ever getting to the point of raging over the top to be baffled. Is the spillway 'baffled' to have never served its purpose...?

On the other side is a spillway-long, maybe 40-ft wide concrete platform that neighborhood kids love to ride bikes on, and where folk congregate on summer nights to play & watch sunsets. Beyond that is massive Bear Cañon Arroyo Open Space, a valley really, where rain channels off the Sandias to a culvert on the southwest corner into the City's flood diversion system.

On this day two little girls came up & showed me a baby lizard they'd caught and were happily petting.
