The site of what was once Alpha-Beta, that became Albertson's. Lakeside is a quirky little town, when I first moved out here in the 90's there were 2 Albertson's, the one in the building pictured here "Old Albertson's" and the one about a block up Wintergardens "New Albertsons."
A few years ago they closed "old Albertson's" and it has sat abandoned and pretty much been an eye-sore. On the grass on the street side of the parking-lot, locals set up what we refer to as the "Lakeside Swapmeet" and sell their old things.
They have begun working on the building, supposedly a Walgreens is going in, the construction has revealed the old Alpha-Beta sign underneath everything, the roof is gone and they are definitely doing something...stay tuned Lakeside!

beta version--trying different ways of doing the wings--room for improvement; the impressions need to be deeper.
A short-lived operator in Glasgow, Beta Buses ran a sightseeing tour using a fleet of unreliable DMS Fleetlines bought from Big Bus Company, London. Big Bus had used the Fleetlines as static ticket stalls, so stop-start was beyond them. In this rare view of one in motion without boiling over or pluming smoke there is quite a healthy upper deck load.
This is a tattoo of mine not too many people get to see. Sometimes I wish this was on my forehead instead of my cheek to express how I feel without having to say anything. Once again Flickr is in an uproar about the unnecessary changes Marissa Mayer has made or is about to make to the photo site. Instead of posting the black protest page like everyone else I decided to express my feelings this way. I didn’t like the changes made in May and I don’t care for the new beta version but I like taking pictures and I've invested a lot of time and energy on my Flickr stream so I'll probably stay. Protesting won’t help or change anything but venting won’t hurt either. Have you ever tried to photo your own bum? I’d love to see it :)
A processing example showing the power of Lightroom 4 Beta's dynamic range control. One of the things that both DxO Optics and Capture One has improved in the recent years is control over this.

This was also shot with the Samyang 14mm and Lens Correction profile applied to it if you do a before and after comparison, you'll see the distortion correction has been applied.
Beta Cephei ranks as the finest double-star in the constellation of the King (Cepheus). The accepted name of Beta Cephei is Alfirk which translates to “the stars of the flock [sheep]”. This flock also consists of two other sheep, Alpha Cephei and Eta Cephei, but these stars no longer carry the name of Alfirk – only Beta Cephei does.
Alfirk in the telescope has a bright white primary star and a distinctive blue secondary star. With a separation of 14 arcseconds the pair are split in any sized telescope. The blue color of the secondary (dimmer) star is intense and can be discerned even in my small 60mm f/15 refractor. In the 155mm refractor (used for the drawing) the blue is breath taking.
Alfirk is really a three-star system. The third star is so close to the primary that it remains invisible in my 155mm refractor.

This image of beta-galactosidase at 3.2 Å resolution illustrates the differential effect that electron radiation (orange rays) has on different parts of proteins (green) during high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) imaging. Acidic side chains, like glutamate (bottom, red atoms), break down first, before more basic side chains, like histidine (top, blue atoms).
