So, I have followed Kim Klassen for many years now. I have signed up for most of her classes, but never participated fully. My goal is to participate more in her new class, be still 52, a year of finding stillness. Day one, Kim challenges us to take one minute of stillness a day and breathe... 6-10 slow deep breaths from our diaphragm while looking at something that we find beautiful or inspirational. Then shoot.

I admit to practicing these deep breathing techniques when I am stressed and they do work, I will be doing these daily now and hope to see a change in myself, a feeling of peace and less stress, and hopefully to improve my photography.

It's been snowing all day....so it's been sort of a quiet afternoon...bundled up and had a little tea and Christmas cookies on the porch...just watched it snow.....

Plate art designed for Kim Klassen's The Studio | Online course.

Organic.....it's that time of year again....apples...and fall colors...Love it! Cropped and tweeked a tiny bit for exposure... Was going to add a preset, and texture, but I really loved the rich, earthy tones...so I left it alone. Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens.... love this lens!

Kim Klassen textures used,

Cherishscripted - Pin Light @ 24% Opacity followed by;

Rainy day - Color Burn @ 30% Opacity

with Thanks to Kim :-)

Due to circumstances way beyond my control I am weeks behind with the BeStill 52 weekly "lessons/take-aways" so I am going to try and catch up but not neccessarily in order.

Thanks to Kim Klassen for the use of one of her textures, aurora

under-exposed by 1/2 a stop and then texture added ~ colour burn @ 10% opacity

A whiskey still glowing in the warehouse of Hotel Tango Artisan Distillery.

Finals are taking their toll. Guilt sets in when my schedule goes astray, even though the tasks I ask of myself are monumental. They demand towering discipline.

Sometimes it's all too much.

My Mum has a page-a-day Buddhist calendar, and she sent me a quote: "Look within. Be still. Free from fear and attachment."

I know I must.

I am not finals, and finals are not me.

I've been taking shots of these two bottles and choose the 4 I liked best.

Added the textures Canvasbackmagic and Maytime 0405 to all of them.

As a background I also used Maytime 0405.

"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."

~ Psalm 46:10

This first week's lesson was about leaving some empty space in a photo so that the subject has room to breathe. I am way behind on my lessons after being out of the country for almost a month. Now that I look back at the lessons I think this was for Week 2.

Kim's preset Within was tweaked for this edit. I'm wondering about the lines in the background...any thoughts on what I should do about that?

A good place to sit and do nothing.

Well that was the crate I used.

Off camera flash triggered by remote.

More experimenting with this method.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;

Throughout the year I collect seedpods and old withered flowers, I have them set out on an old table. Easier than flowers that you need to water :)

It's ALWAYS a good idea to bring nature inside. Be Still 52 class with Kim Klassen. Texture by Kim Klassen. www.thestudio56.com/gather/

These captivating bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) look prehistoric and are native to the southeastern states. Makes me wonder how this family was transplanted here to the Niles Canyon district of Fremont. These trees are usually knee deep in water, but the drought has taken a toll on this and other natural habitat across the state of California.

For Kim Klasssen's class Be Still…. we are encouraged to take a few quiet moments a day to breathe deeply and relax,,,,,, I used one of Kim's presets "true grit" ,,,thanks, Kim..

I am taking a few days away from flickr as we have family coming to visit for the rest of the week,,,,, house will be full,,,,,let the fun times begin!!

thanks so much for you visits,,,have a great week!

I love this vase, and really intended to use it as the subject...by using different points of focus and dof I ended up really liking the shell in front as the subject/focus. Processed with Kim's "Oldendays" preset and tweeked for a little more aqua. Added Kim Klassen "iam" texture and masked off the front shell for a little more detail.

This is called Hyetal.
