And Merry Christmas :)
... an orange and new money. Father Christmas in our house leaves an orange, new money and sweets in the children’s sacks. So where is the sweet? Well, another tradition in our house is that when the last person is home for Christmas we get out all the sweets, biscuits and goodies out. This year though, the last person home isn’t hubby, as it’s always been, but our son. Now that they’re all grown up it has become the child who is last home and he wasn’t due until last night so no sweets were out when I took the shot. Merry Christmas to all of my Flickr friends - may your Christmas be merry and happy 😊

Taken for this weeks Macro Mondays theme: “Best with Holidays is…”
I almost completely forgot about my photo for this weeks theme until I got around to putting together some items I am taking to my parents for our family Christmas day celebrations. About a month ago I had bought these pretty Christmas crackers to decorate our dinner table with. I was delighted at how pretty they were because sometimes they can be quite tacky looking and I thought these would match our Christmas table nicely. It has long been a family tradition of mine to crack these open and see what prize we get and then wear the silly tissue paper crowns and, of course, we have to take a photo of us all...haha! What better way to spend the holidays than being together with our loved ones and sharing delicious food, having some good laughs and making memories? :)
I wish you all a magical Christmas and happy holiday to all. HMM!

I love to bake, and Christmas is a good excuse! The nuts and chocolate are ingredients ready for pistachio nut, dark chocolate and sea salt cookies.

Traditionally we are putting the gifts for the day of Kings under the tree and that day we gathered the whole family to deliver them to us.
The best thing is when all the rush is over, the gifts given and received, the feast prepared and digested....family and friends come and gone...now to chill and savour the memories! (...and the leftovers...)

The Christmas Tree -- my favourite part of the holidays. Ours is filled with many ornaments symbolic of our interests and hobbies. This ornament represents my husband's extensive Garfield collection which at this angle fits within the 3" limit.
Warm holiday wishes to all and many thanks for your interest in my work.

When I was a child, we always had one of these in our Christmas stocking. They were expensive, and we didn't get them at any other time. When I see these in the grocery store, I know that the holidays are here.
These mini mince pies (less than 2 inches when whole) are a perfect treat during the holidays. But don’t over indulge …!

Macro Mondays: Best with Holidays is...lighting candles for eight nights!
(Image is exactly 3" in height.)
Sunday night was the beginning of Chanukah.
On the first night at sundown, we light just one candle and say a blessing. On the second night, we light two candles. By the eighth night of Chanukah, all eight lights are lit.
To me, the best part of the holidays is seeing homes all lit up in Christmas lights. I've always had a weak spot for old-school colorful incandescent bulbs, but I can't help but appreciate the elaborate displays now made possible with energy-efficient LED light strings and sophisticated sequencing and synchronization systems.
This Cluedo game came out of a box a Christmas crackers a few years ago...there's nothing like solving a good old murder mystery over Christmas dinner! :-)
Merry Christmas everybody! :-)
For Macro Monday this week, "Best with Holidays topic" I have chosen a small Santa head we hang from our Christmas tree that seemed very apt considering the upcoming festive celebrations.
Best with Holidays is for me celebrating with my wonderful 96 years young mother and close family, and of course Santa ... if we are lucky enough to see him ..... ho ho ho 🎅
Merry Christmas to everyone of my flickr friends who have contributed to my happy times on Macro Monday's, also everyone else in the world. 🌍

Best with holidays, after having met family and friends, is the possibility to withdraw, to have not a single to-do in the calendar, to enjoy these quiet days after christmas ... and to read a book.
In this case it's a book about a 60's spanish street photographer: Joan Colom, "Raval". I'm really looking forward to it!

For me holiday means going outside with my camera and experiment with techniques and subjects. I love nature. This plant looks like a houseplant, but is in a park near my house and intrigued me for years. This time I photographed from above with low key.
The whole leaf is about 3,5 inch, so I took a detail
Thanks for taking time to fave, comment and look at my work. I really appreciate.

Just 3 of the 32 kinds of cookies I made in the last 2 weeks.
I love to make cookies but my family only like chocolate chip and iced cutouts. So this is my therapy for the holiday and I give plates of cookies to friends, co-workers, neighbors and relatives.

Well, What is That...? It is something that, for me, also is "Best with Holidays". When I went through the 2019 themes, I remembered how much I had enjoyed "What Is That?"; and I also wanted to retry one of the themes I had skipped in 2019. "Best with..." was one of those, and I thought that the subject I had considered for that theme would also make a nice guessing game ;-) As not to keep you in suspense much longer: For me, some of the best things about Christmas time are the many lights - colourful, elegant, crazy or elaborate - that bathe our apartments, houses and the streets in magic. That, and reading. Now you shouldn't think that I only ever pick up a book during the Holiday season ;-) I love to read throughout the year, but the magical, cosy atmosphere created by all those lights makes it a special pleasure. When I was younger, I would, for many years, always read Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol during Advent season. And for the past three years I've enjoyed Advent book calenders with pages to cut open where, e.g., you get to read one chapter each day or have to solve riddles (like in a good old Adventure game) that give you a clue which pages to cut open next :-) And what is it that you see here? You may have already guessed that it's a book, yes, but it's a special one. Actually it's a fun gadget, a pocketbook-sized (a little smaller) LED lamp that you switch on by opening the "book". You can choose a single colour or you can have that typical LED range of ever repeating colours.
The Making of: At first I gave it a try with the extension tubes, but this time that was too close for a pleasant result. So I used my macro lens only, set the book on blue light and played around with the the aperture settings and with different positions of my LED photo lamps (hence the golden glow at the top). I liked the final image, it reminded me of a (long exposure-shot) fountain, but I also thought that something was still missing. When I re-read the "What is That?" rules, I was delighted to learn that multiple exposures were allowed. And this is where my phone came in. Yes, phone :-) The first time ever I seriously used my phone camera. For the fun of it, I chose "Portrait Mode" (which also works for close-ups / macros), set the book lamp on a red light (Roxanne!) and I really liked the result and quality of that image. So this is a double exposure made from an Oly and a Pixel 3a shot. I flipped the Pixel shot vertically in Photoshop and decreased the saturation to blend the layers in.
A Happy Macro Monday and Happy 2020, Everyone!
Geschichten mit Licht
Was seht Ihr hier wohl...
It's that time of year again when the Lamplighter men come out. These guys are older than me!! Anyway, let me wish everyone a very happy holiday/Xmas/etc..
