Up in Fort William on route to Skye I had time for quick visit to see this old wreck. Taken 3 hours before sunrise.
We arrived in Callander this afternoon but were itching to get up high. Well we didn't have too long so Ben A'an fit the bill perfectly. It took us around 45 minutes to get up to the top from the car park and we withstood very heavy winds with rain and then sleet thrashing us until we couldn't take it anymore. Fortunately we managed to shoot this one and it turned out okay.
Just before the sun would begin to slip below the mountains, Westbound van train 21J swings around a curve and under the Pennsy signal bridge at PC6.6 in Ben Avon, Pennsylvania as the train's crew works the final few miles of their run to Conway. There, the train will change crews for its nighttime run west to Toledo and eventually Chicago. This fan favorite signal bridge is one of only a handful left on the Pennsy's mainline between Conway and Harrisburg and will unfortunately fall to progress on Sunday.
Big Ben is a clock located in the bell tower at the north end of Westminster Palace in London, England and its interior. The official name of the tower where Big Ben is located was originally Clock Tower, and it was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012. Elizabeth Tower), to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II. The clock is the largest clock in Britain. Its building was completed in 1859, making it one of the largest and most accurate four-sided clocks in the world.
Ben lost his Dad when he was 10, this was just over a year later on a trip to a trout farm. So difficult to appreciate how a huge loss at that early age feels like.
A skyward view of the east end of the only siding on the former N&W Gilbert Branch. Gilbert itself is only a handful of miles to our east. From there the Virginian's small but impressive empire stretched towards Mullens, Princeton and eventually Roanoke. The N&W and VGN have long since been merged away and nowadays the NS runs this railroad mostly as one, although the current employee timetable still reference separate entries for the Gilbert and Guyandotte River branches.

Ben Hope with early morning cloud streaming away on a westerly wind, as seen from Moine House.
Ben Hope is the most northerly of the Munros - Scottish Mountains over 3000 feet (914.4 Metres) high - and is not far from the northerly coast of Sutherland. On this day a westerly wind was carrying moist air from the sea, and this condensed as it hit the slopes of the mountain causing the cloud stream.
The Moine is a vast area of heather moor and peat bog which from ancient times has been a barrier to transport and trade. The first good road across The Moine was built in 1830, and Moine House was built as a half-way stop. The house was abandoned some 60 or 70 years later.
This is what we came home to.
Ben loves the cooler weather and the first snow.
Us, not so much, at first.

2006 was my first time walking the trails above a friend's home in Ben Lomond, CA. It was a magical experience. It remains embedded in my senses... the soft air on my skin, the loamy smell rising with every step, the birdsongs and rustle of furry beings, that feeling of being surrounded by beauty beyond comprehension, wanting to hold on to it, but knowing existentially that was impossible.
I believed it was only the moment I could not keep... that everything would remain to return to and enjoy.
And, now, in a flash, all this may be gone. Seventy miles away, safe in my suburban home, I can smell the trees burning. I can see the orange of their embers stain the sky an alien color.
I cry for the wildlife. I cry for my friends not knowing if their home, one that has been in their family through generations, still stands.
I look at my snapshots, remembering that, at the time, I thought I can always go back and take better photos with a better camera and, then, never doing it.
The lesson is, there may never be a next time.
EDIT: My friends' home miraculously survived. The surrounding forest and most of their neighbors' homes did not.

we've been pulling in the timber Rob coppiced a few years ago this last week, as its ready to log. And the pups have been free in the yard. They love scratching around in the heat of the now mountainous wood chip pile.

The path on Ben Vorlich is very good but its also getting used a lot and wear and Tear is a problem nowadays,somebody will be busy repairing it again very soon.
