The only GP9RM to be painted in the 15 Years paint scheme to commemorate 15 years of privatization. Only this unit, a GP38-2 and several Dash 8-40c units. In use, more than 13 Artist frames with a total of 500 ports, 100 key panels, 100 Performer C3 beltpacks, 90 interfaced radio channels, 27 MediorNet frames, 20 CCTV cameras, 25 viewer stations, 50 Bolero beltpacks and 16.000 FM receivers. Acquired in 2015 this is one of only 2 units of its kind left. CP 1683 is now sitting on the deadline at CEMR Transcona in Winnipeg Manitoba.

 

Notes : Built by GMD as TH&B GP7 #73 (1950), acquired by CP, rebuilt with a 1,750 Hp. 16-567C engine block, chop-nosed and renumbered to #1683 (1987). Unit has no dynamic brakes. Equipped with CANAC remote control 'beltpack' equipment. Declared surplus (5/20/2015).

 

Originally built as a GP7, this unit received a 1,750 Hp.16-567C engine replacing the original 1,500 Hp. 16-567B engine when overhauled and renumbered to #1683, technically making it a GP9u unit. CP retains the GP7u designation for the ex-TH&B units numbered in the #1682-1687 group.

The Hillsong Conference 2017 in Sydney with over 22,000 attendees was a great success! 55 Bolero Beltpacks, 40 MediorNet nodes, around 1000 Gbps of MediorNet routing capacity and 250 comms ports used during the event.

Sure, one is a much more powerful and flexible camera than the other. But which one would you rather carry around all day in a beltpack just in case you came across anything photogenic?

CN GP9rm 7269 class GY418-b rebuilt from CN GP9 4207 in 1990 (nee 4589 - 1957) built 1957. Locally assigned to Saskatoon. 7000 series GP9rm units are assigned to yard duties (opposed to the 4000 series that are more for road switching) and is mated with slug 224.
