Women garnered little to respect in the world of sports, it was looked at as a recreational activity that should never overshadow a women's duty to her man

The beginning of part 2 of Just Love Festival had begun with an incredible meeting with Paramahamsa Vishwananda giving Darshan, which literally means to have the sight of the divine whilst incredible kirtan and music took place in the Bhutabrteshwarath temple. The following days were packed with amazing music on both the Ananda and Vaikunta stage. The weather was not exactly on our side however it did not deter the musicians nor the audience from showering their love and enthusiasm watching these vibrant performances. Vinidra dasi and Kanakadas literally blew everyone away with their unique creative music. Prema Vahini had everyone enchanted with their Croatian rhythm and Tarana Chaithanya rocked not only the stage but also the dance floor with encouraging everyone to chant the name of the divine.

Quilt for my daughter, as she began her new career path.

I kind of wish the head wasn't blocking the corner, but I really do love the colors and lighting in this photograph especially.

Beginning and ending at the Hole in the Wall Information center, this 1.25 mile loop must be one of our favorite short hikes around. It begins innocently enough with a return to the standard scrubland at the base of the ridge. After a bit of progress where will be many large boulders, some of which have petroglyphs from the Mojave and Chemehuevi tribes.

After rounding a corner, high porous volcanic tuff cliffs appear as the trail enters a wash. As you get closer, a gap appears in the cliffs. This is the entrance to Banshee Canyon, so named for the howling on windy days.

It opens up at first into a very pretty area with high walls and a good amount of greenery at the base. The trail goes into the narrow gap to the left where some scrambling is required.

Eventually you'll come to two shear walls where metal rings (hence the trail name) have been hammered into the walls so you can pull yourself up. If you're in shape or tall, this will probably be easy. Otherwise it's a challenge, but a fun one. There is more fun scrambling, and you pop out of the canyon near the picnic area by the information center.

for my Utata.org Thursday morning walk

Early morning, early spring.... on Long Island, NY

The day after my niece's wedding, there was a brunch at the lodge where we were staying, during which I mostly ate, or chatted with family, or kept an eye on my kids. At one point, though, I found myself standing out on the deck, looking out at the ocean and watching the waves ripple through the water on their way to the beach. Letting my eye rest on one spot and watching each swell pass by like the ocean taking a breath, it felt like every little hill in the surface was something coming into being. Something familiar but somehow alien, lonely and yet comforting. Something short-lived but eternal. Something mysterious.

I stood there, transfixed. And then I turned away and went back to the party.
