A fern spiral (Koru) in the Palmerston North esplanade gardens bush walk. The koru (Māori for '"loop or coil"') is a spiral shape based on the appearance of a new unfurling silver fern frond. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattooing, where it symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace.

In my opinion, this image conjures up the perfect Spring day - warm enough to soak up the sun sitting on the grass in the sunshine surrounded by the small bright leaves. This image is the perfect antidote to the endless grey days of winter.
It is partly in pointillist style, which I admire greatly, and which can be seen in the sky if you zoom in
At the beginning of the twentieth century, during the Belle Époque, many artists had studios or worked in or around Montmartre, including Salvador Dalí, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Camille Pissarro and Vincent van Gogh. Montmartre is also the setting for several hit films. This site is served by metro line 2 stations of Anvers, Pigalle and Blanche and the line 12 stations of Pigalle, Abbesses, Lamarck - Caulaincourt and Jules Joffrin.

My two beautiful Tulips from two weeks ago.
Tulips give you endless beginnings, when the blooms end its only the beginning, next year they will bloom even brighter.

... who is also a shutter bug - so it was even that much more special.
Here's to many more with her in 2014 and beyond.
Last year, a few friends and I flew off to Minnesota to visit with the various owls found in Sax-Zim Bog. We donned our heaviest of jackets, warm boots, gloves, and head gear ... braving temperatures of minus 45 degrees with the wind chill. Lucky for us, it was an irruption year, meaning higher numbers of these amazing creatures. Yes, it was absolutely frigid, but I sure warmed up when we encountered them. This absolute cutie is the Boreal Owl, a small, but chunky owl, normally very difficult to find in the daylight hours, but this one just made my day! Still warms my heart even just looking at this image. LOL. In all, we spotted 6 different species of owls, but none as special as this one. :-)
Happy New Year everyone!!

Nothing fancy, just nice seeing the fresh greens that are starting to venture out of the ground.
