reflecting on the State of the Union Address at the United States Congress this past week, is realizing sadly and fearfully, he is witnessing the beginning of the fascist transformation of his country. He knows the warning signs and he once again remembers the words Thomas Wolfe wrote in "You Can't Go Home Again" after Wolfe visited Nazi Germany in 1936:

“I think the enemy is old as Time, and evil as Hell, and that he has been here with us from the beginning…

I think the enemy comes to us with the face of innocence and says to us:

“I am your friend.”

I think the enemy deceives us with false words and lying phrases, saying:

“See, I am one of you — I am one of your children, your son, your brother, and your friend. Behold how sleek and fat I have become — and all because I am just one of you, and your friend. Behold how rich and powerful I am-and all because I am one of you — shaped in your way of life, of thinking, of accomplishment. What I am, I am because I am one of you, your humble brother and your friend. Behold,” cries Enemy, “the man I am, the man I have become, the thing I have accomplished — and reflect. Will you destroy this thing? I assure you that it is the most precious thing you have. It is yourselves, the projection of each of you, the triumph of your individual lives, the thing that is rooted in your blood, and native to your stock, and inherent in the traditions of America. It is the thing that all of you may hope to be,” says Enemy, “for”— humbly —“am I not just one of you? Am I not just your brother and your son? Am I not the living image of what each of you may hope to be, would wish to be, would desire for his own son? Would you destroy this glorious incarnation of your own heroic self? If you do, then,” says Enemy, “you destroy yourselves — you kill the thing that is most gloriously American, and in so killing, kill yourselves.”

He lies! And now we know he lies!

He is not gloriously, or in any other way, ourselves. He is not our friend, our son, our brother. And he is not American! For, although he has a thousand familiar and convenient faces, his own true face is old as Hell

.Look about you and see what he has done.”

So, it's not like I don't already have enough hobbies, but I thought I would start to learn a little about bonsai.

Instead of buying a pre-done bonsai from a nursery or the mall, I took the advice of the experienced and bought a couple of plants from home depot to start learning on, since it's likely they'll die anyway.

One interesting thing I learned is that real bonsai don't get put into their final shallow tray pots until the plant is in it's finished state. Before then, then are grown and shaped in another pot or in the ground.

So... this is my first purchase, a regular juniper from home depot which I have done some initial shaping on, based on what I "think" it wants to look like. I'll just be letting it grow before doing too much more. I do have some bonsai wire arriving this week so I will be wiring a couple of the branches to influence the shape as it grows, but that's about it for now.

If you have experience in this hobby, please don't hesitate to give me some pointers.

After about an hour of REO, Chicago took the stage. I'm more of an REO fan, my wife's big on Chicago, though, so this was a perfect compromise concert. But as a result, I don't know the names of too many band members.

For my birthday back in August Peter got me canning gear and a copy of The Preservation Kitchen! I have been canning things every chance I've had since then (which admittedly hasn't been many, but still). I've generated quite the stockpile so far - the jars here are just a representative sampling.

I made this for my mom as part of her mother's day gift. The pattern is from Sublime Stitching by Jenny Hart. I'd like to do more embroidery, but I need to figure out my eyes first!

Beginning of a trip / Početak puta

On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. They shall be a reminder of you before your God: I am the LORD your God. Numbers 10:10

Ox Eye Daisy, just beginning to come into flower.

Everywhere.

-------------------------------------------

Often growing in swathes along a roadside or field margin, the Oxeye daisy is just as at home in traditional hay meadows. The large, white, daisy-like flowers are easy to identify.

A typical grassland plant, the Oxeye daisy thrives on roadside verges and waste ground, as well as in traditional hay meadows and along field margins. Its large blooms appear from July to September and are so bright that they appear to 'glow' in the evening, hence the other common names of 'Moon daisy' and 'Moonpenny'.

The petal-plucking game, 'He loves me; he loves me not', is thought to have started with the Oxeye daisy, and is now a common children's activity. While thinking of a suitor, each petal is plucked until the answer of whether love is possible becomes apparent. However, each 'petal' is actually an individual flower as Oxeye daisies have composite flower heads consisting of yellow 'disc florets', surrounded by 'ray florets' (the 'petals').

This wool is super bright. I love it. I'm hoping to finally, finally, FINALLY manage a 3 ply fingering weight. I keep on way undershooting or overshooting it.

Just think for a second how it really starts always .. You are scared of telling the person that you love him/her just cause you don't know if that person loves you back .. And then at times relationships ends cause of misunderstandings which is really sad .. But do you ever think at one moment you really love that relationship when you had it .. And whatever you did was good for you .. And you were all in love .. And at that time thats exactly what you wanted .. So if a good relationship ends don't be sad about it remember the part when you were happy in that relationship :) ..
