Still can’t believe it – all that emotion,
all of the memories we had –
stir-fried together, sutured forever,
could fit into two paper bags
How could this thing now complete
seem so like nothing to me?
(Go walk your hound dog honey . . .)
But one thing I want to know:
where did that energy go?
Did someone take it from me?
You only want approval
Why should you need to read the instructions on the machine?
You stuff a shilling or two into the meter
then you expect your life to sprout green
But if I follow your drift
Well then it comes down to this:
Who put the jam in the stew?
It doesn’t matter

You raise an eyebrow
You shrug your shoulders, cut up your toast into three
One part for you, two parts for them
Whatever’s left is for me

He’s so dishevelled and thin!
