Trying out a new recipe. A beautifully moist and lovely textured cake. I used dutch process cocoa (dark) so didn't see much of the beetroot colour that I was hoping for, but the taste was divine!

My fingers kept slipping so I had to resort to pliers

shot with the 50mm Summilux V2... love the bokeh!

or Borscht?

Stephanie Alexander's "Clear Beetroot soup recipe". Not quite

authentic, and the sour cream went and put little floaty droplets all

over the surface after this was taken. I forgot the red wine vinegar,

and it did make a difference to the second bowl I had. Tasty with

toasted caraway seed bread.

Make this delicious Beetroot Halwa this festive season and treat your family and friends with something out of the box. The recipe is same as making Gajar Ka Halwa and it tastes amazing.

Roasted Beetroot, Radish, Celery Salad, on a bed of water cress and topped with haloumi crisps.

I love the intense beetroot-y flavour of roasted beetroot!

And a cream of watercress soup to go with it.

Bread, butter, thickly sliced beetroot, Heinz Salad Cream, soft cheese like Boursin or camembert, sprinkle of vinegar, lettuce optional. Leave to marinate before eating or posting to worst enemy.

This is a favourite snack I usually assemble twice a week.

Baby red beetroot is delicately sweet with a lovely flavour, slightly milder than its larger cousin. To bring out its sweet flavour, they are wonderful roasted, especially a generous helping of herbs and balsamic vinegar. We source these direct from a small farm in Colchester where they are planted and harvested by hand. This makes for exceptional quality, as used by the best restaurants.

Beetroot for sale in the market in Fes medina

Keith and I tried a new restaurant.

It was Lumee Restaurant in Al'Aali Mall, and we tried this very pretty in pink hummus. Yummy!

Delilah just knew when she woke up that morning, that she fancied having some beetroot with her salad for lunch. Now she sits in silence and ponders... not realising that she might have developed an obsession for it... (produced with Midjourney AI, processed in ZPS-X).

"Rödbetor" at the farmers market in Tungelsta. Sold by Karita Thomé.

A very pretty loaf studded with bright red, coarsely grated, beetroot bits. The recipe is a little on the salty side, and the raw beetroot has an overly grassy flavour. Perhaps this recipe could be improved by either roasting the beetroot whole before grating it, or with the addition of garlic and rosemary.

Because it is basically a white bread, the texture was light and fluffy, but still chewy because Julia used good bread flour.

Found in a basement of the abandoned hospital Beelitz-Heilstaetten.

Always be careful when exploring unkown basements... there are hazards where your Geiger counter won't warn you.

Call me a coward, but I didn't look for the best before date - these beeroots (German: Rote Bete) have their price still given in east german marks. So they are probably about 20 years old...

Some people say if you open one of these glasses and inhale the spores you will mutate into some weird creature haunting the old tunnels under the infirmary... and you really meet some strange people down there...

Beetroot being grown in a greenhouse

Going through last year's captures - a harvest thanks to my mum's hard work in the garden.

Beetroots boiled, peeled and then blended with mustard, balsamic vinegar and some of the liquid from boiling, combined with cous cous (again cooked in the beetroot liquor). Velvet deliciousness!
