Historic flood levels have caused terrible devastation in the Fraser Valley but the kindness, cooperation, giving and care shared by the community is truly cause for a positive and optimistic view of things!

Anything Goes 2021: Colour Monochrome

Vancouver, CANADÀ 2024

The Vancouver skyline is globally recognized for its stunning juxtaposition of modern architecture, a vast expanse of water (Burrard Inlet and False Creek), and the commanding North Shore Mountains as its backdrop.

Key Elements:

Modern Towers: The city is distinguished by a large number of high-rise residential towers and office buildings downtown, reflecting its rapid growth.

Landmarks: The skyline is anchored by unique structures such as the Harbour Centre (with its distinctive circular observation tower) and Canada Place (with its iconic white, sail-like roof).

Panoramic Views: The best views are often captured from:

Stanley Park: Offers a classic view from spots like Prospect Point.

West Vancouver (Cypress Mountain): Provides an elevated, sweeping view of the entire city, water, and Vancouver Island.

Kitsilano Beach: A popular view featuring the water in the foreground.

At the end of the logging road to Downton Valley lies a beautiful little lake below the headwall.

A Barred Owl roosts in a maple tree in a forest soon to be harvested in Abbotsford, BC., Canada. This Barred Owl hooted as did a nearby Great Horned Owl. What a pleasure seeing and hearing both owls in a short hike from our home.

Beautiful Japanese Maple tree in Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

About this photo: Since the weather forecast was calling for rain in the next couple of days, I decided to go visit beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver, BC, Canada in search of some more fall colours.

I made my way around the outside of the sunken gardens before I headed down into the gardens to find this beautiful Japanese Maple tree dressed in fall colours. I love their interesting trunks and branches that seem to twist and bend in many different ways.

Some information about Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver: There's a reason Queen Elizabeth Park is one of the most frequented spots for wedding pictures in Vancouver: it's flat-out stunning. With its gorgeously-landscaped quarry gardens, fabulous scenic vistas and 1,500-tree arboretum, the park is a world-class public space and one of the most beautiful places in the city.

Perched atop Vancouver's highest point and covering 130 acres (52.78 hectares), Queen Elizabeth Park is second only to Stanley Park in popularity and annual visitors. At its peak is the park's plaza, a paved area with panoramic views of downtown Vancouver, a courtyard of dancing fountains as well as the Bloedel Conservatory, home to about 500 tropical plants and over a 100 birds of various species.

From the plaza, visitors can follow the winding paths down to the quarry gardens, ponds, lawns, and arboretum. The two quarry gardens are horticultural delights, with pathways and little bridges and mini waterfalls set amongst hundreds of plants and flowers. Private spaces for rest and contemplation are easy to find, and the plentiful trees--over 3,000 throughout the park--provide shade in summer and abundant color in fall.

Sports activities at the park include the Queen Elizabeth Pitch & Putt golf course, Tai Chi in the morning atop the plaza, lawn bowling, and 18 free tennis courts that are first-come, first-serve. And while you are there you can also enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner at the restaurant called "Seasons in the Park" with an amazing view of the city.

I was trying to think of a clever title for this photo, and came up with a few that were okay, but then I wondered what the name of that rich red colour was. Maybe that would give me something inspired and interesting to say. I searched all kinds of colour and paint tools, but ended up at...lo and behold, wikipedia. Visually, the closest colour match in their list was named...Barn Red. Imagine that! Sometimes simple is best. :)

The tide was out and the skies went on forever. A blue heron was fishing with Mt. Baker in the distance. Quite a lovely vista. Thanks for your appreciation, Gail Instagram @gks1950

Beautiful day out at Botanical Beach - Port Renfrew

The marine fog drifted in and out of the trees the whole time we were there and the tide was an ultra low one this am allowing us to get out further than I have ever been - awesome day!

This little Grizzly is the star of episode 8 of netflixs show wild babies. Recently a large male was interested in his mother so she left him behind so he was not killed by the male. He was feeding on mussels when we found him.

1.52: Beauty's Nothing

Perceiving beauty is the first step in appreciating this magnificent world that surrounds us. The next is allowing yourself to experience it fully. We need to take risks, say yes to opportunities, open ourselves up to chance adventures. It's then that we truly see the splendour and glory.

As a parent, and for practical reasons, I've been reluctant to fly with my husband in his airplane. I woke on New Year's Day and decided it was time to seize the day. The snow capped Golden Ears mountains were spectacular to see - full of beauty. The flight, however, was an adventure that filled my soul with awe. I'm looking forward to a year of beautiful photographs and inspiring experiences!

Hooded Merganser catches a Stickleback

When the world moves too fast and you loose yourself in the chaos,

introduce yourself to each color of the sunset.

Reacquaint yourself with the earth beneath your feet.

Thank the air that surrounds you with every breath you take.

Find yourself in the appreciation of life.

In the late evening, already past the Blue Hour, the outline of this Container ship could be seen against a brilliant sunset sky.

The Sea to Sky Highway is a breathtaking scenic route that connects West Vancouver to Whistler, British Columbia. Its name, "From the sea to the sky," perfectly describes its journey, which begins on the coast of Howe Sound and ascends towards the majestic mountains of the Coast Range.

This road offers spectacular views of fjords, lush forests, and rugged peaks. It is renowned as one of the most beautiful drives in the world and is the gateway to countless outdoor adventures. Along the route, there are many must-see stops, such as Shannon Falls Provincial Park, the Sea to Sky Gondola, and the Britannia Mine Museum. It also passes through the town of Squamish, a haven for climbers and outdoor enthusiasts.
