A fantastic group of drummers leading the Parade at Southsea Carnival 2010.
The crowd loved the stomping beat and were dancing on the pavement in time with the marching drummers.
They are the "Portsmouth Batala Group"
See them if you can - you won't be able to keep your feet still

Batala Liverpool are a Brazilian-style percussion band which has its musical and its historical roots in Brazil ! They are involved in projects teaching Brazilian drumming and dance, workshops and play in parades, major carnivals, private celebrations, opening ceremonies, Brazilian nights and festivals and perform at major sporting and music events !
Liverpool would be a lot poorer, entertainment wise, without them !
Awesome Sound and Rhythm !

Bristol Batala gave two impressive performances during the first "Make Sunday Special" event of 2014.
From their Facebook Page:
'Samba is the sound of the Brazilian carnival and samba reggae is a style from the north-eastern Brazilian state of Bahia. It's a stripped down sound; no bells, no shakers, no whistles, just the raw, hypnotic groove of the drums.
Batala is an international collective of samba reggae groups. Batala Bristol was founded in May 2011 and is one of seven groups in the UK'

Haven't been on Flickr because I got sick and tired of the grey field next to the picture, and the constant scrolling and clicking to see comments, and the fact you cannot start a new paragraph in a comment, as clicking the relevant key, posts the comment, and the fact you cannot sign out of Flickr directly from a picture, as you have to close it first.
And now I find out I have to open a Yahoo account as well as soon you will not be able to sign in with Gmail.
What a way to treat your (paying) customers! The photos look great though, I must admit.
But ... I was told off for only having posted four pictures of the Sport Relief mile, so here goes.
Four more shots and more to follow if/when I can face Flickr again, in the SPORT RELIEF MILE 2014 set.
Loud, very loud and great street performance at the Chinese New Year celebration in Lancaster, Lancashire.

Some of the members of BATALA MERSEY Samba band, here mustering on St George's Hall steps prior to marching in the 2017 Liverpool Pride parade.
Incidentally, this pic is not posed. I'd been hanging around for quite a while waiting for (what I considered to be) a half decent [candid] composition opportunity. The girl mischievously pulling tongues while showing the 'Peace' sign obviously spotted me at the last moment. However, I didn't realise that until I saw the image on my home PC - in a larger size.
Batalá performs at the celebrations for the 2019 World Series Chammpion Washinton Nationals, November 2, 2019.
Have you heard - and seen - these people play? A fixture at DC parades and celebrations for a dozen years, Batalá empowers with strength, rhythm, and joy. Seek them out. #batalawashington @batalawashington
