I have a love and hate relationship with photographing equine sports in the evenings. On one hand, you have a ten-minute window where you get stunning images like this one. On the other, you're stuck jacking up your ISO after sunset because you don't have strobes to try to keep your shutter speed high enough to cleanly capture the action.

Fruit atop a fishhook barrel cactus (Ferocactus wislizeni). Seen in Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Tucson, Arizona. The barrel cactus fruit can be picked and eaten raw.
Many thanks for your visits / comments / faves!
The distillery at Woodford Reserve uses a 500 foot gravity rail to move the "white dog" whiskey from the stills to the rackhouse where it will age up to 7 years and become the bourbon eventually sold around the world.
If you're viewing this image on a phone or tablet turn your phone left or right to make the plane barrel roll. 😉

Spotted this 'thing' on the beach in Marazion, near Penzance and although I realised it was a jellyfish, it was quite unlike any I had seen before.
Back home, where I live on the North Sea coast, I am familiar with jellyfish. Somewhat unwelcome visitors whenever the usually chilly waters become warmth enough to enjoy. You can be down having an enjoyable paddle when suddenly someone shrieks out loudly... "JELLYFISH!" It's almost akin to screaming out "SHARK!"
You can guarantee, that after the confirmation there are jellyfish about, paddling takes on a much more concentrated effort as you keep a keen eye out for these creatures.
Now, I don't know how dangerous or otherwise they actually are as I've never been stung. What I do know though is that I have no desire to want to find out.
Until this summer, the only jellyfish I've ever seen have been rather small – the largest being the size of a frying pan.
Then, there was this monster of a jellyfish, which I later learned was a 'Barrel Jellyfish' – the largest such jellyfish to float into UK waters. I don't know how often they are around, but this was the first encounter for me and I guess for quite a few others too. Sightings were making the headlines locally and after I returned home, I discovered they were featuring in the news nationally. 'JELLYFISH AS BIG AS A HUMAN' was one such headline (with a photograph taken to illustrate the point!).
I suspect that being 'as big as a human' might have been a big of a slight exaggeration, but these beasts are quite a size and I certainly wouldn't want to accidentally bump into one!

Someone has to do the dirty work... barrels full of strange substances must be move from the hangar.
"Lining up, waiting on the trickle down.
Something's up, taking time to get around.
Belly up, all the drinks are on the crown!
It's just a matter of trickle down."

...like a barrel cactus, only a donkey, wide as he is tall. But sad, cuz everyone tells him that!! :)
Barrel Cactus Blooms. This cactus is in our sun room and blooms every year. I like the light in this image. Sony full frame with Canon 50mm macro.
Out back, behind the brewery: a trailer (filled with 'spent' mash), a yellow tub, and an empty whiskey barrel.
Decatur (East Decatur Station), Georgia, USA.

▶ The name of the brewery derives from...
"The Three Taverns (Latin: Tres Tabernae), a place on the ancient Appian Way, about 50 km (31 miles) from Rome, designed for the reception of travelers, as the name indicates."
▶ And a biblical reference:
"The brethren, when they heard about us, came from there as far as the Market of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us; and when Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage."

Another photo of a barrel racer taken this past Saturday at Andwemet Farm. I wondered if I could get a more retro look so I tried a BW conversion with Silver Efex Pro and by using a Sepia preset. I kind of like the sepia version. Do you have a preference?

Aparently thousands of these large Jellyfish were stranded on beaches in west Wales the other week. I also found a few on beaches around Harlech.
Beautiful blossoms on a barrel cactus in the Utah desert.
Thanks for stopping by and for all of your support. Have a great day whenever you see this!
