Flower of a barrel cactus (not sure of species) at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
Double barrel is a term used to describe a maneuver in which both back hooves leave the ground simultaneously in an upward and outward motion as the black mare is doing.. The gypsy Vanner mares eagerly run towards us in hopes of snacks and pets. Bratty on occasion they get a bit snippy with each other announcing they want to be teachers pet.
A frosty morning walk, and right at the end i started looking up, and spotted this beautiful bramble branch with the colours of autumn dipped in ice powder. They reminded me of boiled sweets, which when I was a child, I always thought I would swallow and choke on ! Barrel of leaves is a great track by We Are Augustines, who we aren't seeing next week, but we will be seeing Pixies, can't wait.

The successor company had to file for insolvency in February 2019. The 250,000 square meter company site is to be converted into a residential and commercial quarter. However, some of the factory facilities still exist.

Here's Jasper doing his impression of a barrel cactus, like those behind him. Nice try Jasper, but you're just not prickly at all
Barrel cactus buds typically start to bloom in April with a bright yellow or orange flower. Pink and red varieties also exist but occur less frequently. The flowers only appear on the very top of the plant. As the flowers begin to wilt in early May, they may change color. A late summer desert rainstorm can produce a late bloomer as shown in the photo of the orange flowered variety (it bloomed two days after a rain storm in mid August and then continued to bloom right through the end of September).
Red Kite diving. Hard cropped image just caught by chance above my garden during our mini heatwave last week.
The Third ‘R’ – Recycling
The last stage of the waste hierarchy is to recycle.
To recycle something means that it will be transformed again into a raw material that can be shaped into a new item.

A Barrel cactus plant producing some lovely red blooms! When it rains in the desert these suddenly seem to explode.
Love the vivid blooms on our 100+ year old fishhook barrel cactus. Note, each flower is about 1.5" across. It also produces sweet fruit which can be made into candy. Here's a photo of the fruit: flic.kr/p/2mP2bXM .
