A beautiful 2 night stay in Norfolk, Norfolk was certainly basking in the sun this weekend with record temperatures beating everywhere else in the U.K, not much photography in the day though, spent the weekend on the beach, and such big skies here in Norfolk, I wish you all a happy week ahead.
Our second trip into Dartmoor during last bank holiday weekend led us to Meldon Reservoir, on the north-westerly edge of Dartmoor National Park. It's such a fantastic area, reminded us of our past trips in the Cairngorms. There were colourful flowers everywhere - gorse, rhododendrons and hawthorn trees were in full bloom. We had a lovely picnic overlooking the reservoir just below that tree. The resting sheep added a nice bit of interest to this motif I think.
Part of our Bank Holiday weekend was a day at the beach. We chose Budleigh Salterton as our destination and tried to stay away from the masses by going to the very eastern end of the pebble beach with its interesting red cliffs. While the sea retreated during our stay this mega jellyfish was exposed on the shore and I quickly grabbed my camera before it dried out in the scorching sun. I am not entirely sure which species this is but I guess it is a barrel jellyfish (the ones that do not sting you...).
This is part 3 of my little sunset adventure at the North Devon coast from the bank holiday weekend. After heading back from Watermouth harbour I stopped at a small picknick car park to watch the sun go down. The views to the east along Hele Bay were fantastic as the cliffs were painted in the deepest red.
A truly incredible end to the August Bank Holiday weekend last year, when I was contacted by a News Agency regarding my Photographs of deer bathing in a pond in Richmond Park during the record breaking heatwave.
I went to bed that night knowing that one of my pictures had made the Daily Mail Online.....Then in the morning I woke up to the news that not only had I been featured on page 11 of the Mail, but had also made the front page of The Times (Tuesday August 27 2019, thetimes.co.uk No 72936) it was this particular image that made the feature image on page 11 of the Mail.
In addition my Photograph even got a mention on BBC Breakfast that morning.....Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined this, it’s funny to think I’d never picked up a camera prior to 25 months ago.....Dreams Really Do Come True!
This is part 2 of my little evening escape while spending the bank holiday weekend at Ilfracombe. After having enjoyed the views across Broadsands beach I was aware of the fact that my parking ticket has almost expired. So I headed back down to the holiday car park but could not withstand to first have a look at the harbour of Watermouth bay. It was low tide so all the boats were standing on land but the setting sun kissing the hills forming the entrance to the cove made for a nice moment. I would have loved to spend some more time there - maybe the sun would have set just in between those hills - but I did not want to get into any trouble for my parking ticket so I quickly went back (to be continued...)

Only 11 more hours at work then it's a Bank Holiday Weekend :-))
The blackbirds obviously planted this sunflower which has appeared outside our kitchen window and is preparing to explode into life. Next week we'll have some yellow!
What a wonderful weekend that was! We explored a bit more of Dartmoor and visited two reservoir dams and the surrounding area. Our first trip was to Fernworthy reservoir, located close to a place with the wonderful name of Frenchbeer :-) .
The weather was gorgeous and the area around the lake was truly beautiful - bluebells were still flowering everywhere, so did gorse and rhododendrons covering the sides of the dam and woodland surrounding the reservoir. An easy enough walk for our two wee adventurers so we walked towards the dam and passed through a small bit of woodland lining the river South Teign which flows off the dam. There was an idyllic spot after we crossed a bridge and I spend some time taking photos of the stream while the boys enjoyed throwing stones into the water :-)
Upon our arrival at Haytor rocks last Friday I could not resist to run up the hill to get a shot of the Dartmoor ponies standing in front of the popular granite outcrops. For that day we explored the disused quarry and the granite railway but I am happy that I payed with sore muscles to get this photo before we walked along to our actual destination! I could feel the steep and fast ascent a few days later still....
During the bank holiday weekend we spend some time searching for a bluebell forest close to Ilfracombe. I read about Borough Woods which was listed as a nice forest to visit during the bluebell season. I had a look on google maps and found a car park close to the southern end of the forest which was even labelled Borough Woods. As we approached a nearby farm we were greeted by two yapping sausage dogs followed by a man who firmly send us away again because it was his private land. A bit disappointed we tried our luck from the northern end of the woods at the small coastal hamlet Lee and we eventually entered the woods using a designated walk. Due to very muddy paths we did not explore very deeply but it was really beautiful in any case with lush jungle like vegetation, a little stream and of course - bluebells :-)
I can't believe I managed to capture this pheasant, and in focus! This is straight out of the camera.

From the roots of his hair to the bottom of his chin is 1/10 of a man's height; from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head is 1/8 of his height; from the top of the breast to the roots of the hair will be the 7th part of the whole man. From the nipples to the top of the head will be the 4th part of man. The greatest width of the shoulders contains in itself the 4th part of man. From the elbow to the tip of the hand will be the 5th part of a man; and from the elbow to the angle of the armpit will be the 8th part of man. The whole hand will be the 10th part of the man. The distance from the bottom of the chin to the nose and from the roots of the hair to the eyebrows is, in each case the same, and like the ear, a third of the face.

i thought i'd take the opportunity whilst the park was closed and therefore no kids around to play with these gates which i've had my eye on for some time.
I went for a long overdue visit to Another Place at Crosby: I love the Antony Gormley "Blokes in the sea" but haven't been here for years.
I'm still feeling a bit washed out but we went for a quick drive to Sandbanks this evening, and were rewarded with this lovely sight!

Lovely and sunny today for the bank holiday weekend. Quite a few people about but not overcrowded and plenty of fresh air.

It was a bank holiday wash out today, but at least my ironing is done, and bathroom clean!
A quick visit to Christchurch to see the swans, but it was too windy, cold and then rainy, to do much else.
Covid roadmap out of lockdown.

A much more enjoyable afternoon, visiting Portland Bill. I think the car park, toilets and kiosk have only just opened this weekend. It was very windy to not too busy.
I'm going to chose this photo for my 120 photos in 2020 project, number 79 "one fine day" because for an afternoon, it felt like a bit of normal.

Weather looks set to improve after getting very wet today. So, eventing, long distance walking, country homes and yellow garden schemes, riding and more! A busy three days ahead with a photographic twist, all shall become clear, I hope, if the camera-lens combo is on form.......
I hope you all had a good Easter.
This is the fair ground, at the pier approach, that has arrived for the holidays. I will try to go back in better weather to get some decent shots. I took this under an umbrella, that was nearly blowing away, so not ideal!
