Had she lived, Bandit would have celebrated her 35th birthday today. My thoughts are with those special people who were particularly close to sweet Bandit.
About John Payne:
Notorious as The One Arm Bandit, John was born to a rancher in the oil rich town of Shidler, Oklahoma on April 19, 1953. Ranch life with four brothers taught John to “Get out of the way or get run over”.
He believes “when the going gets tough, the tough get going and if there is a will, there is a way”.
On June 12, 1973, after grabbing a hot wire of 7,200 volts of electricity ran through his entire body for an unbearable 10 seconds. John was killed. With his fingers nearly burnt off, John fell 25 feet to his death. The doctors reported “not much brain damage” and after five weeks in the Tulsa burn center, John checked himself out and went home to start breaking a horse he had bought during his time in the hospital. And today, his rodeo specialty act is the most sought-after rodeo act in the United States.
With all the late summer berries available, Cedar Waxwings like this one are busy grabbing the goods like bandits.
This is my Phyllocrania paradoxa, commonly known as a Ghost mantis, he gets the name bandit from only having one arm!

The legend says that the caves of Kleftiko (bandit's lair) were a pirates hideaway and that their treasure was never found. Looks like the real treasure of Kleftiko are the elaborate caves itself, the impressive rock formations and the crystal clear waters.

This photo has a story... It was a nice Saturday night. We were in Key West with our Flickr friend Susan and her husband. We were out on the ocean on a sunset cruise, up on the top deck. Susan went down to get a plate of dinner and after she came back up, a seagull flew right next to us in mid-air with an eye on her plate. I snapped this photo, and he swooped down and grabbed a piece of chicken...right out of her hand...and flew off. We were all stunned...lol...and got a good chuckle out of it ~ sunset ~ Key West, FL

Little bandits raid my trash,
hiding behind their little masks.
The rascals have themselves a bash,
leaving me to clean up the aftermath.
I turn on the lights and off they dash,
scurrying into the night in a flash,
but all will return back very soon.
They know I have a special fondness for the raccoon.
