73210 stopped at Balham on the 1145 Victoria to Gatwick. This Sunday morning, Gatwick Express services were calling at East Croydon and Balham due to engineering work.
4SUB 4710 approaches Balham (gateway to the south) on 21 September 1980 with a train from Epsom Downs or West Croydon via Crystal Palace.
I borrowed a Nikon Df for a few days as I was looking to explore my local area at night and do some low light work.
The Df is so impressive for this kind of stuff - it's not just the way the camera handles noise at high ISO settings, but also the way it captures colour. A pleasure to shoot with.

On a thoroughly miserable day, weather-wise, Class 47 no. 47466 passes Balham on a train I recorded as an Adex on 16 February 1980 - I have no idea where the train had originated, or what its destination was.
47466 was built at Crewe Works, and was new, as D1590, in May 1964. It only ever carried one TOPS number, and was withdrawn from service in August 1991. 47466 was scrapped at Crewe Works, by contractors, in March 1997.

The Odeon Balham, opened in April 1938 closed in 1972 as the Odeon, it then ran as the Liberty cinema from 1974 until 1979. The auditorium was demolished in 1985 for a housing development, the frontage has been kept as original and is used by Majestic Wine, being their first store. 06/04/15.
