The disused Balham "glasshouse" signal box, opened in 1952, photographed three days after it closed, on 10 June 1981.
Tooting Common on the right-hand side. The common here is less well-known than its Clapham counterpart, but is prettier and less windswept.
Balham underground station on October 16th 1940 after a bomb had hit the ground above and severed a sewer main causing the station to flood killing around 69 persons in the station at the time.
On 27 August 1988, 9105 passes Balham on the 0950 up Gatwick Express and overtakes 5810 on the 0845 London Bridge - Wimbledon - Sutton - West Croydon - Victoria circular.
On 22 December 1994, 319014 arrives at Balham on the 1401 Victoria - London Bridge via West Croydon, Sutton and Wimbledon.
London transport LT669 seen in a bomb crater on 14th October 1940, the bus was left by the crew during an air raid, after the raid the crew returned to find the bus sticking out of the crater. Sadly the bomb had hit a sewer main that burst and flooded the underground station below killing around 69 people. The bus was later rebuilt and back in use by the December.

During the summer of 2009, the Milton Keynes - East Croydon service was operated by 350s owing to a stock shortage. Here we see 350126 leaving Balham on the 1413 from Milton Keynes on 25 July.

455814 stands at Balham with a service for West Croydon via Gipsy Hill.
Prominent in this photo also, is the DOO equipment, a reminder of the 455s part in the controversial introduction of DOO on the Southern Region back in the 1980s
A colourised postcard of Balham High Road, South London, circa 1905. Three methods of transport can be seen using the road - bicycle, horse and cart, and tram.
On the right hand side of the photograph is the Duke of Devonshire pub with the name of the Publican, James Fleming, in large letters on the outside of the building. James Fleming is recorded as being the Publican in the 1904 and 1919 Post Office Directory.
The Duke of Devonshire is still a pub, now called The Devonshire. Unfortunately the ornate buildings on the left hand side of the photograph haven't survived.
