Bayard is a tiny hamlet southwest of Regina with only a handful of mostly empty houses and former businesses. In winter it looks particularly deserted. Somewhat disturbingly on the wall of this old shed was hanging what looks like the carcass of a wolf or large dog. I didn't even notice it until I got this photo home. I am extremely curious about this, but it makes the hamlet seem even more "hill-billyish" than ever.

After meeting a northbound intermodal at Kelsey, empty limestone train U71481 02 kicks the snow up south of Alborn as they race towards Proctor on the Missabe Subdivision behind an eclectic mix of General Electric Dash 8 models. The 58 Difco side dumps will be topped off with a fresh load of limestone rock from a ship at the Duluth Docks before turning back north to US Steel's Minntac plant at Mountain Iron in a never ending cycle to feed the hungry blast furnaces. Looking lost amongst the Iron Range's fleet of EMD SD40s and standard cab C40-8s, this old C40-8M "Barn" is an uncommon, yet welcomed, visitor to these parts.

Deep in the forest around milepost 7 on the Wales branch, DMIR 406 and 409 continue the long trip back towards the mainline. This is hardly the easiest local to chase in the greater twin ports region, between it’s slow speed, lack of accessibility, and the distance involved, however its definitely worth a catch or two when the time is there.
I found this old church off of 315 in Clay County Florida. It's near the Belmore State Forest. Photo: Lou T.
I spent a lot of time walking around in a snowy woods last weekend in the UP of Michigan. The snow was plastered to everything---branches, trunks, needles, etc. I don't think I have ever seen it quite so beautiful. On one of the walks we came to a relatives deer camp and found this Model A Ford. It was stashed out behind the camp in a sort-of half shed. This vehicle has been in their family for many years and I am told it still runs.
I made this image with my Pentax K5 and Pentax 18-135 lens. Processing was done in Aperture 3, Topaz Adjust, and SnapSeed for Macs.

The Good Ol' Boys are back at it. This time they're having a little cook out.
It only took 2 weeks, but I finally got it uploaded. This was the product of two or three, 2-3 hour build sessions in early May, usually right before I took my exams that day.
Enjoy.

The poppies of 2023 on Sierra Highway, across the street from Backwoods Inn Restaurant in Canyon Country, CA. Thanks to all the rain we've had, the hills are stunning. It's almost hard to keep your eyes on the road. The last time there were poppies on this hill was back in 2017 and then it was not covered like this. It's a superbloom.

Another angle of our little boardwalk in the town Dusk Hollow.
Plenty to do, plenty to see! With all the regular amenities such as medical clinic, bar, tattoo parlor, bookstore, cafe, and more!
Another archive shot from the beginning of October. I think I am on the longest run of not taking photos in a long time...

As the Railroad Day's weekend draws to a close, the 116 year old Southern Railway #401 leads its final train back to the Monticello Railway Museum grounds to discharge passengers. While I was actually beginning the trek to the trestle, I found myself gazing at this spot for so long that I had to stay and shoot here instead!
Backwoods Gallery is proud to present Inner Myths, a collection of new paintings and sculptural works by Shida.
The exhibition is a dynamic record of Shida’s development as an artist who envisions infinite worlds. Considering an array of approaches, through Inner Myths, he synthesises styles as diverse as Science Fiction Art, French Post-Impressionism and Russian Symbolist Art in his depiction of ethereal realities. Influenced by the work of Frank Frazetta, Paul Gauguin, Mikhail Vrubel and Nikolai Kalmakov, for Inner Myths, as Australia’s most prolific young street artist, Shida reinvokes two centuries of art history in his characteristic style.
Inner Myths presents a refined body of works, demonstrating that Shida is an asset to Australian contemporary art, who is constantly challenging himself against the sources of his inspiration.

If you love hot chocolate and coffee, and if you've been to Backwoods Inn restaurant and not had our house specialty coffee, Backwoods Coffee, you're really missing out. It's a cocoa coffee blend, with Amaretto, whipped cream and spices. Kind of tastes like an adult hot chocolate. Very yummy. Try it next time you're in. It's a great way to top off your meal and a customer favorite. It's dessert in a drink.
