with a little person to give you an idea of how huge these really are

 

spectacular remnants of a long forgotten technology these great marvelous concrete listening ears are the best known of the various acoustic mirrors built along britain's coast. they were supposed to provide early warning of enemy aeroplanes or zeppelins but faster aircraft and increased ambient noise meant that enemy aircraft could be seen by the time the sound mirrors detected them. the poor great dears.
