My first backpacking trip is done🙌 Steve and myself explored the Indian Heaven Wilderness in Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington, about two hour drive from Portland. We entered from the west via Forest Road 65 and the Thompson Lake Trailhead. About seven miles of one way hiking to our campsite at Bear Lake. The two night adventure featured: Through hikers (part of it involved the Pacific Crest Trail), alpine meadows, trees, lakes (there were A LOT), nudity, and of course lots and lots and lots of huckleberries! #backpacking #throughhike #indianheavenwilderness #giffordpinchotnationalforest
FISH and I went backpacking over the Labor Day weekend at Raven Rock State Park, NC. It was only about 2.5 miles into the campsite, but the campsite is 100% dry. Thus we had to hike out each day to refill water bottles. We also say Lanier Falls on the Cape Fear River, the lookout, and the famed Raven Rock. It was incredible.
Everyone has a place or two that they want to keep secret. This is definitely one of ours. Paul and I went back to an old stomping grounds for a week long backpacking trip to celebrate his 50th birthday. Our original route was cancelled due to a fire in the area, but Plan B turned out great. We caught some cutthroats, saw 5 black bear, 5 rattlesnakes, osprey, eagles, big Chinook salmon and the Perseid meteor showers. The weather was warm for carrying heavy packs, but at least a couple rain storms drenched us. There was a microburst that came through the area one afternoon, like a freight train, that had us watching multiple trees busting over. Luckily the tall cedars, douglas firs and ponderosa pines at our camp bent, but did not break. An awesome trip in an amazing place with a great friend.
Yours truly on the last day of a long backpacking trip in the Southern Sierras. We'd just made the last high pass on the way home.

Depth of 8 inches (20 cm), along with the stiffer shape, makes the backpack look quite large on smaller body frame (I am 167 cm tall) and unwieldy even empty. The squatter dimensions, 16.5 x 13.5 inches (42 x 34 cm) accentuate the outward size from the back, all while impeding movement.
I kept the ONA bag for more than a day before deciding that no matter how much I liked looks and feel, for the price and what I functionally need, the backpack wouldn’t do.

On the last day of our backpacking trip, we packed up our camp below Puerto Nambe and strolled the last 4 miles back to the cars. We were sad to see it end, but happy to head home and share our memories with friends and family.
Example of how voltaic systems does a good job of using modular off-the-shelf connectors in their solar panel backpack.
Whenever I'm riding my bike I want drivers to be able to see me when the light is too low or the visibility distance is terrible. So I attached two strips of reflecting velcro tape (I stapled them on to my bag) on to my bag in an "X" shape so drivers will be able to see me and give me my space on the road.
