The Summer of 2021 officially ended a couple days ago. Some are sad to see it go, while others say good riddance after record breaking heat waves here in the PNW and forest fire smoke that affected the whole country. I have a foot in both camps. Days like this full of hiking, chilly alpines swims, and grazing on wild berries are why I love summers. But in recent years, the impact of humans has manifested itself into climate change events that only the most dense could ignore. Now in addition to the joy of hitting dusty trails and cold lakes, I fear what summer brings and at times wish we could just segue from Spring to Fall.

Regardless, fond memories of this day in the North Cascades spend enjoying natures beauty and bounty. A challenging hike, a lakeside lunch with fresh huckleberries, a frigid dip into icy waters for Sarah, and my Hasselblad soaking it all in.

Our second night in the Backcountry of Glacier National Park was extremely wet (the thunderstorms of that night actually caused the Sprague Fire, shutting down the park for a week and some regions for the rest of the summer). When we first peeked our heads out of our tent we couldn't even see the tops of the trees but (as often) as soon as the sun came around the fog slowly disappeared. So I paused my morning coffee ceremony and was just standing at the shore of Bowman Lake and watching the sun rise behind the continental divide. A magical morning!

I tasked myself with backpacking across the grid and exploring all the Linden Routes. I started on the Atoll continent, and I loaded up on the Second Life Railroad and found this lovely little property owned by a group called Lucky 13. During World Heritage day in Bath, there was a Roman encampment at the Royal Crescent where we could see how the romans lived, fought and conquer, battle after battle to achieve one of the World's greatest Empires.

This one was taken when the legion was displaying the way the army would travel and what would they carry with them. These were called the Marius backpack.
