Ayers Rock
In May - July 1990, myself and my brother John Stocker backpacked around Australia. Starting from Sydney, we travelled in a circular route via Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns, Alice Springs, Adelaide, Melbourne and back to Sydney. We used only the excellent bus network and stayed at Youth Hostels and Backpacker lodges.

Near Big Game campground, North Fork highway @20 miles east of the East gate or @ 10 miles west of Wapiti, WY, Shoshone Forest.
For whatever reason my eye is drawn to this 20' section of this ridge just east of Big Game campground. It reminds me of the French sculptor Rodin's "Thinker" only this one has a backpack.
Kaikoura 凱克拉 海豹的故鄉
今日行程從Akaroa一路開往Kaikoura，車程約260km，這是位於Christchurch北邊的一處海豹的故鄉，寧靜的小鎮，今晚的住宿是Albatross Backpacker Inn，是一間外觀普通充滿年輕背包客的住宿點。

問過isite我們前往第一個觀看seal(海豹)的點Peninsula Seal Colony，Kaikoura是紐西蘭南島第一有名的海豹故鄉，很多海報都會在此棲息，而通往這小半島的路上有一間網路上頗負盛名的BBQ seafood，名稱就叫做Kaikoura seafood BBQ，最有名的就是龍蝦肉，當然要來品嘗一下。從市區出發約5分鐘就會看到一台小廂型托櫃車在路邊，那就是美味BBQ的所在地，半隻龍蝦NZD$28，論大小計價，6顆干貝NZD$8，附上簡單的蔬菜沙拉和白飯或吐司。頑石之後前往海豹點，才停好車就發現停車場一片騷動，原來有隻胖嘟嘟的海豹在某個遊客的旅行車底下睡覺，大家紛紛拿出相機拍她，她被吵煩了裝生氣張大嘴巴，似乎也覺得自己挑錯地方睡覺，沒一會兒就趴出車底下溜回海岸邊。
晚上回到backpackers很多人正在煮著感恩節大餐，有人問我們要不要一起參加，在旅程末端的我們實在有點懶得再跟新朋友social，因此禮貌地回絕了，客廳塞滿了人，我們到房間外享用晚餐，然後享受一個悠閒的飯後散步。
隔天早上的第一站前往距離Kaikoura北方約30分鐘車程的Ohau Point Seal Colony，此處的海豹數量較多，抵達此處果然沒失望，大大小小的海豹在岩石上懶洋洋地翻滾，還有些玩耍著的小海豹們。海豹的皮下脂肪厚實，我們在寒風中直打哆嗦，他們卻怡然自得的好像是春天溫暖氣候底下進行日光浴~
結束看海豹的行程我們驅車回到基督城Christchurch，準備江浙接近一個月的紐西蘭南島旅行做個結尾。

This backpacker is half in his sleeping bag resting on the green in the centre island next to Marble Arch the traffic is whizzing around this centre island but he is left in peace to thoroughly enjoy his midday siesta without being disturbed. This weeks theme for the Nomads is "Rest" so this pic will do .
