Third Installment of my Boy Behind The Lens Series.
The love affair began when I purchased my first iPod. It was one of those iconic white ones, with a scroll wheel, a mono-chromatic screen and twenty gigabytes of disk space. Five iPods, 2 iPhones, and about half a decade later here I am an Apple evangelist, fanboy, or whatever else they call people like me.
But more than just being a lover of all things Apple, at heart, I am a true blue techie, a lover of all things that have to do with technology and gadgets. From pocket video cameras, gaming consoles, gizmos and what have you, I love it all, these are my toys and my passion.
I have dabbled in web and graphic design, blogging, micro blogging, podcasting, and non-linear video editing. Nowadays I bring that knowledge in multimedia into my own profession with work in Digital News Gathering (DNG), social media and hosting a tech segment on TV. Its really great because I get to do something related to what I love and am passionate about.
Some friends call me the "tech guy", you can do the same if you want. And as part of the package if you have a tech question, need buying advise, or my thoughts on a particular device, or Internet service don't hesitate to send me Flickr-mail, I love to teach and help people out.
PHOTO NOTES: I've always known that I wanted to do an Apple themed shoot and earlier today while trying to figure out how I would implement my concept, my red iPod nano caught my eye. I've always loved the color of my red nano and today it really has served as the inspiration for this diptych. I knew I needed color since my keyboard was black and the apple logo on my MacBook Pro is white on silver.
To add red to the keyboard I basically made a large white canvas on Photoshop, enough to fill the screen and then filled it with red, also placed a large red bag against my laptop so the color would reflect on the backlit keys.
To add red to the Apple logo I basically shot this in the dark, waited till the logo dimmed from full brightness (it does this for a few seconds before the screen eventually goes black to save power), and then added the red tint using my iPhone (again opening up a white canvas and filling it with red).

Okay, initially I was going to post just these as they pretty much sum up my life for the moment. Stuck at the desk for butt-numbingly long (I need to get a better chair than the piece of junk my undercarriage currently graces), and feeling taxed and greased up by the end of it.
I actually shot this on another frustrating and long day, except it was more photography induced frustration (lots of that these days)! Here I had an amazing piece of glass (Takumar 50mm f/1.4) and yet I was unable to any of the shots, even half as close to how I wanted them to be. I tried and tried but I just couldn't do it (on another note, I NEED to get myself a Katzeye focusing screen asap). And my obvious failings were really getting me down.
Anyhow so I gave up, came back up, back to my melodramatic existence, looking off at nothingness for melodramatic emphasis when this fell into my frame, POV/angles/everything just done.
And I guess all my photographs are like that / accidental / luck / etc. Damn good chance and damn good lenses (very good at covering up damn low photo-skills). All I had to do was click & I did.
Despite the pitch dark room (to add to my melodrama) and the greased up glasses (my dirty laziness), I quite like how it turned out. It was as if a higher entity was telling me to stop being a sap and open up my eyes instead of quitting (again). And actually, wearing my glasses when shooting do sound like a good idea 8-)
OMG this day keeps getting better and better. Just lost the 40 tags I gave on this. FFFFFFFF.

I also have plans to soon build a super fast photo editing/photo storage/media server/gaming computer. I'll post pics once I build it.
The focus is on U. U better deliver.

Lifetime Dream # 31 of my list of 155: I will finish my college degree, in the field of Business Management. I will finish my courses at Texas State or at the University of Phoenix. I will have a large celebration upon the day that I finish my degree and walk the stage to pick up my diploma.
I spent 5 years at Texas State (it was Southwest Texas State University back then) as a Physics and Mathematics major. I quit going for a few reasons, but I remember when I told my parents that I was “taking a break” before finishing, that I would one day complete what I had started. After my divorce, well… it was hard being on a single income, and then it was one reason after another.
My employer, United Healthcare, like many other employers offers tuition reimbursement programs, but with the rising costs of education- they fall short. In 2010 they started a program in San Antonio where the top-performing employees could go back to school at no cost through the University of Phoenix. United Healthcare pays 100% of the costs, and we have to agree to stay with the company for 3 years after graduation. It’s an amazing gesture, and truly it instills a lot of loyalty and pride in the workplace.
The degree I’m pursuing is in Business Management; I plan to specialize my degree and get my Master’s degree- perhaps even my doctorate. I just want to be called Dr. so and so… (kidding- I’m not that egotistical!). Everything is online with the University of Phoenix, so that was a bit of a change. Because I was a Math and Physics major, I don’t have to take any math; everyone in my cohort hates me for that!
Pictured is my new Sony Vaio laptop. I delayed getting a new one for a while now, but with more and more photo editing and music recording coming up, it was much needed. I love so much about this laptop that I wouldn’t know where to start. Back-lit keys, super-fast processor, high-definition screen… the list goes on!
I kind of hate that my degree plan is spread out, but in some ways it’s nice. My classes are 5 weeks long, I get to take 2 in a row then have a 1 course break; 10 weeks on then 5 weeks off. I really can’t complain because most others have little or no breaks. Come 2013, I will be super happy to be done with the program… I will definitely be taking a nice long vacation after that!!!
After all of today's Apple news, I had an idea for a quick photo. Pretty happy with how it turned out, just wish I had a better secondary light source to "light-paint" the face of the phone.

At my summer internship with Macbeth Photography in downtown Orlando, experimentation and spur-of-the moment ideas are encouraged.
With the recent launch of the next generation MacBook Pro, I couldn't help but be inspired by Apple's iconic minimal and isolated product shots. The goal was to recreate and emulate their style on our own.
To achieve these shots, we turned off all the lights in our all black studio and "painted" with light. Believe it or not, our light sources included the LED from an iPhone 4S, and the screen backlights from an iPad or iPod touch. Very very pleased with the results and looking forward to revisiting this technique with more subjects and projects!

Finally got one of the new Aluminum MacBooks! It's been kinda weird to make the transfer from Windows over to Mac, but mostly just minor things like getting used to a computer that actually works flawlessly. No viruses, no processes that suddenly hangs and quits for no reason and last but not least; the computer is so extremely fast and has a battery life of around 4,5 hours! You might say that I'm somewhat of a happy camper these days now! =)

Had to take this one. What, like I'm going to let my backlit keyboard just sit there and glow? Right.
My 14" Vaio (left), Macbook Pro, and my Mum's 15" Vaio on the right. You don't realise just how slim the MBP is by comparison until you see it next to these laptops, neither of which could be considered lardy.
