crazy winter weather afternoon, sunny then snowing with quite a bit of wind. snow clouds moving across the sun selectively backlit this field
Trying to capture the drama of the wind drifting the sand, I composed this shot toward the morning light. At 200mm the scene is compressed into a pattern of criss crossing light and shadow.

Cattails are so common and ordinary so often providing backdrops for birds and other subjects, but when backlit they can be extraordinary.

Pardon me if I’ve posted this before but it’s a favourite of mine. The afternoon sun catching the Dunlin from behind as they come into land near Blackness Castle, West Lothian, not far from the Forth Bridges
A hint or a promise that Springtime should be just around the corner. However, during the following days the White of this blossom was replaced with the White of snow as an Artic blast swept down across the UK.

Hello there,
I couldn't help but notice this lily which seemed to positively glow from the backlit conditions. To add a bit of contrast, I slightly darkened the background.
Thank you for stopping by and for leaving me a comment! Have a wonderful day!

I've had this holiday cactus for 30 years and it's now about 3' wide. In that time, it's only missed one year where it didn't bloom at all. Each year it's been producing more and more flowers and blooms at least twice a year. Best viewed large.

An observation deck on the boardwalk had proven to be a great vantage point from which to photograph the backlit wren in the early morning sun.
I had more than adequate time to meter the background and ambient light, and had set the camera exposure compensation to +2/3EV to take the shots.

This week's assignment for Macro Mondays is "backlit". I often use this technique. I love it! This is a macro of a Physalis I preserved of last year's autumn. The outcome is abstract which I hope you like. I also see now that I am not the only one who has used this object for today's theme. It's a well used item ;-)
Have a wonderful Monday! HMM everyone!
