Construction continues on road repairs and improvements to an access control point at Longare in Italy. Construction on the $950,000 project is expected to continue through May 2010. We decided our next major house project was to redo our driveway. It has been terrible since we bought the house. 2/3 destroyed blacktop & 1/3 sunken concrete that made for a flooding hazard during the rain. Weeds all over, hard to shovel or snowplow. No fun for bikes or toys for the children. Tripping hazard for everyone. We actually decided to redo it a while ago but other things came first. We would have made it straight since we didn't own the backyard yet. But the two big pine trees were in the way. We didn't want to have a new driveway get destroyed by tree roots like the old one did so we waited. Then after we able to purchase the backyard, the driveway came to the top of the list. We prepared by cutting down the two pine trees & grinding up the stumps. We had contacted the local companies that do driveways & got quotes. A long & frustrating process that was. Then a friend recommended Gilson Construction. Turns out I know the owner from my time as a Service Advisor @ Bergstrom & Witt. They came back with an affordable bid & had no issues with our project. They were great to work with & accommodated all our requests. We have no qualms recommending them ourselves. We now have an amazing driveway that has no more flooding issues, will be easy to shovel, & the kids just love to play on. Totally worth it.
I was hoping this would have a black on orange construction vehicle plate. But it's got an pre-1997 old style black on white plate. It belongs to the BMA.
The full reach of the embedded crane is quite remarkable allowing to grap stuff a few meters away from the ship.
The water and sewer lines on Church St. in Stirling are being replaced. Today the work arrived in front of my house.

In 2013,The Department of Ecology removed old creosote dock pilings and other in-water concrete and metal structures. Dug up and dredged about 10 acres of sediment contaminated with dioxins and wood waste.Dispose of contaminated sediment off-site. Improve the near-shore habitat by reshaping an existing spit and jetty. Connect Fidalgo Bay with the wetland area that was created in 2011. The site was vacant property with abandoned building remnants and debris. A sawmill and wood-box factory, and then a plywood mill, operated on the site for almost a century. Mill features included a hog-fuel boiler, drum storage tank area, transformer yard, above-ground storage tanks containing fuel oil, gasoline, diesel and/or propane, phenolic formaldehyde resin and caustic storage tanks (both used in making plywood glue), a machine shop, a metal shop, and an area for spraying paint and oil.
In 2011 work focused on cleaning up about 6 upland acres. It included removing pilings and other structures to allow excavation of about 33,600 tons of contaminated soil; off-site disposal of the soil, structures and pilings; and backfilling the site with about 39,000 tons of clean soil. Site soil contains elevated concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, nickel, selenium, silver, zinc, oil-range petroleum hydrocarbons, dioxins, and furans. Groundwater beneath the site does not meet drinking water standards. The water also contains elevated concentrations of arsenic, copper and nickel. Dioxins and wood debris contaminate Marine sediments are found to be contaminated with dioxins and wood debris.
Erosion at the Least Tern Preserve has made damage control an urgent matter. Fortunately the Least Terns have urgent matters of their own. They are so focused on mating that it appears they don't really notice the huge Dump Truck and Backhoe moving the beach below them.
