A little macro of some elevator light that my friend Liam thought would make an excellent desktop background.

iPhone Monster Attack!!!
This iPhone Background (640x960 wallpaper) is released under a Creative Commons license.
If you like this image, please leave a comment. Thanks!
How do I get this onto my iPhone?
There are a number of ways to do this, however I think the easiest and fastest way is to download Flickr’s free app. Within the Flickr app you surf over to my photo feed to view the images (if you make me a contact then I’ll appear in the flickr contact list). When you find one you like, just click the download button and save the image directly to your phone. Quick & Simple!
I don’t have an iPhone. Can I still use it on my phone?
As of this writing this image (960 x 640) should be large enough to be used as wallpaper with the Droid / Android, BlackBerry, Windows 7, and iPhone.
How did you make it?
This background was made using graphic design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Filter Forge, Genetica, Wacom, Alien Skin, Topaz Labs, as well as several other programs.

Next up in my easy watercolour backgrounds series is this circle grid inspired by Catherine Côté, CeeCee's Creations. In particular, a lovely grid of circles with various doodles over the top that she did. I paired the circles with leaves from what has to be one of my all-time favourite sets from Simon Says Stamp and a simple greeting label 🌿

Just a little test to prove that phones are also capable of shallow focus and bokeh - naturally, not through the use of 'filters' and computational photography. Not exactly DSLR quality but similar look and feel? ;)
Here I've blurred the foreground to show sharply the more distant scene in the background...

Do any of these appeal to you for the background? Or a mix of some or all of them? Would you prefer solid white or gray?
I created a Greasemonkey script that allows selecting background color on a photo page.
The script creates a white-to-black gradient box. Hovering mouse over it changes the background color to the one the mouse is currently over.
Additionally all the elements except of the photo on the page are hidden. They get displayed again when mouse leaves the box.
The script can be downloaded here.
A discussion about the script, update announcements, etc. can be followed here.
I'm going to put the update announcements as comments for this photo too.
The original photo I used for this example can be found here.

Rule of Composition : Controlling Background
This picture consists of a background and a main object. The background being a white wall, and the main object being the notebook.
Why this is a good picture :
This is a good picture because it has a plain background that does not distract the viewer from the main object. The main object also has a symmetrical circles design that is aesthetically pleasing. The lighting on the picture is just right and has good exposure.
How can this be improved :
This picture can be improved if the was not holding the object. The hand created a imbalance within the picture and it would look better without it.

[for the Strobist boot camp]
I realize this is late, but I would love feedback about it. I took these last week but we left on Thursday on vacation and I'm just now catching up on things.
I chose this one because of the details of the assignment... vertical, not a headshot, and hopefully conveying something about the subject in the photo. Assuming this would run next to an article or somesuch, I didn't feel it necessary to blatantly state something about the subject, but merely hint at it. In this case, the background is Rice University, and the context of the photo in the publication would link the background to the context. At least, that was my thinking. :)
Lighting details: primary light is a Canon 420EX shot through an umbrella, above the subject and to her left. Secondary light is a 550EX on camera, ratioed way down so that it's filling a little and mostly triggering the 420. The sun is obviously illuminating the background and her hair, but ambient light alone would have left her very dark... most of the foreground light is from the two strobes.
Shot with a Canon EOS 10D, Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.
Feedback would be great. Thanks!
