Pose:The Owl. Want You Back
48 Xinyong'an Rd., Shanghai
This narrow street lies in the oldest part of the former French Concession, once known as the French Bund (South Bund). In the distance, two towering landmarks of Lujiazui—the Shanghai Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC)—rise across the Huangpu River. Along this stretch, the street is lined with low-end eateries. Farther ahead, the blocks once housed leather wholesale shops, which have already been acquired and cleared. Now, the acquisition of this section has begun as well. Many eateries have already relocated, and the rest will soon follow. The shop buildings are likely to be demolished entirely.

When the beautiful pink light hit the landscape I was still struggling up the hill. So took a breather to take some shots.
You might be able to make out an impressive cornice on the right side of Swine's back. I didn't notice this until I was back home.

The Black-backed Woodpecker specializes on eating big, juicy wood-boring beetle larvae. It is an inky black bird with a sharp white stripe on its black face, fine black barring on the flanks, and, in males, a yellow crown patch. These enterprising birds locate burned forests just weeks to months after a forest fire and then live off the bounty of insects over the next 5 to 8 years. In areas with fewer fires, they may also use bark beetle outbreaks or bogs.

"Taking Back Control" by Sparta
The future bleeds
All these wasted seeds
Don't let it go
We're taking back control
The future bleeds
All these wasted seeds
Don't let it go
We're taking back control
Uncommon to locally fairly common summer migrant to Europe from winter grounds in Africa. Found in heathland, open farmland with hedges and scattered bushes, especially thorny plants on which prey (small birds, large insects, rodents) can be impaled in "larders." Hunts from perches atop bushes and on wires, but at other times is retiring and easily overlooked. Male distinctive, with blue-gray head, black mask, rusty-brown back; female has warm brown upperparts, fine dark scalloping on breast and flanks. (eBird)

So many shrikes! I had no idea that there were so many species to be found. This beauty was frequently seen sitting on posts and poles, waiting for the unwary bug to fly by.

Pan Am's Maine Central Heritage unit, ex-B&M GP9 #52, looks right at home leading local WA-1 down the former MEC Back Road Mainline (now part of the PAR Freight Mainline) at Oakland, ME. Two thirds of the railroad's operating GP9 fleet are on the job today as they sandwich two empties for AIM Recycling, just two miles west of here.
I was coming back from a work meeting on this particular late summer afternoon when I caught sight of a headlight up ahead alongside US 20 east of Dyersville. It turned out to be the CN local L565, the Dubuque to Manchester turn. The crew works industries in a number of towns along the route. Here they were just starting a pickup at Innovative Ag Services on the upper right. Western Dubuque Biodiesel is on the upper left. They've held onto two cars of lumber that will be spotted at the next town over in Dyersville so that move will be easier. GTW 4919 and IC 3115 were the power assigned for the moment to the Dubuque area locals.
This spot is very close to the infamous "Field of Dreams" movie filming site here, still home to the original field made for the movie, and another fine crop of Iowa corn is starting to show signs that harvest time is coming. No idea if there were any ghost players roaming about in those rows though...
I often take the Dubuque local trains for granted, but typically they have some of the best power in the Dubuque area on any given day, at least if you like CN Geeps with paint of their original owners. (Well, typically a pair of Geeps anyway, sometimes it can be other models of EMDs or GEs from the CN family for a few days at a time when that's all that is available). A morning crew at Dubuque uses them to switch the yard and go over to the Illinois side of the river to the industries the CN serves there, plus the BN interchange. And then this evening crew works to Manchester and back, where they leave cars for the Cedar Rapids branch and bring back any outbounds from that area for connection with the mainline trains M337 and M338. This chance encounter was a good excuse to stop and get a couple of frames before we each moved on in our respective directions - the L567 to Dyersville and points west, and me back to Dubuque.
a softly back scratch... sure relaxation and maybe, something else.

...and sometimes all you have to do is to let them do their same lame ass shit just to see where you stand with them & what they rather do, and walk back to your normal life!

Go ahead and take your best shot,
Let 'er rip, give it all you've got,
I'm laid out on the floor, but I've been here before,
I may stumble, yeah I might fall,
Only human aren't we all?
I might lose my way, but hear me when I say,
I will stand back up,
You'll know just the moment when I've have enough,
Sometimes I'm afraid, and I don't feel that tough,
But I'll stand back up,
I've been beaten up and bruised,
I've been kicked right off my shoes,
Been down on my knees more times than you'd believe,
When the darkness tries to get me,
There's a light that just won't let me,
It might take my pride, and my tears may fill my eyes,
But I'll stand back up,
I've weathered all these storms,
But I just turn them into wind, so I can fly,
What don't kill you makes you stronger,
When I take my last breath,
That's when I'll just give up,
So, go ahead to take your best shot,
Let 'er rip, give it all you've got,
You might win this round but you can't keep me down,
'Cause I'll stand back up,
And you'll know just the moment when I've had enough,
Sometimes I'm afraid and I don't feel that tough,
But I'll stand back up,
You'll know just the moment when I've had enough,
Sometimes I'm afraid and I don't feel that tough,
But I'll stand back up.
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to...
Black, black, black, black, black, black, black
I go back to...
I go back to... Amy Winehouse
