It's about time I posted photos of my big brother ... he is the reason I took up photography now more than 50 years ago. Today would have been his 73rd birthday but he left us at age 46. I won't bother with bemoaning and detailing how profound our loss was ... he wouldn't condone it if he were here.

We photographed together when time and circumstance allowed and I would often turn my camera to him as my subject. Two examples of my informal portraiture of him are in this diptych. Although I had no way of knowing it at the time, all of these extemporaneous portraits would become a treasure to me after his death. I return to them often to provoke good memories that deserve provocation for their goodness and if only to remind me of our times together and to serve as the 'voice in my ear' when I am editing my own work. I often look at my own images when deciding if they are 'keepers' by asking myself "what would my brother have said about them?" It keeps me honest in some mysterious and wondrous way ... thank you big brother and happy birthday. "Anon, or sooner!"

I will not bother you with philosophy and the like. I am just trying to digest, visually, what I have seen at the Natural History Museum at Tring the other day. What I have seen were hundreds of animal exhibits, prepared by taxidermists a long time ago, such as this gorilla. I felt and still am feeling the unease that overcame me. Whatever the scientific and educational value of this morbid collection of lifeless bodies may be, it is also true, in my view, that we are dealing here with a stark monument of human superiority over the animal world. I am not criticising that we are classifying all forms of life and that we try to understand evolution. The problem is our attitude of superiority which leads us to assume that we can do with other forms of life whatever we want. A central plank of this pretence of superiority is to strip the animal of its feelings, its history and its personality. When it comes to primates, the problem is probably most evident. We need to change our attitudes. Fuji X-E3.

The beginning of a children's book I am making for my grandkids. Hope to have it finished by Christmas! This fence was buried during the last storm we had which didn't seem to bother the blue jay (stellar).

New Brighton.

Sunrise is just a little too early at the moment but finding the light is still quite nice for the hour or two after. Still three of us on the beach though. A guy from Birmingham and one from Rhyl, both there early for the first visit of the brand spanking new Viking Venus cruise liner in to Liverpool. Her maiden voyage.

I stayed around to watch it come in. Not huge, but still 47842 te holding 930 passengers I was enthusiastically informed.

I was told about the entertainment onboard, the decks, the cabins, the engines, which shipyard built it, where it is registered, how many knots it could do at full pelt, how many litres of paint were used, the passenger to space ratio.....

I left them in peace when one of them got a carton of milk out and started to tell me about the owner of Tetra Pak....

Ever cautious, no matter where they are, the birds are always on the look out for predators, or competition.

Not sure if this male Red belly Woodpecker was being a bit territorial, wanting to guard the feeder from other birds, or worried about potential threats, or bothered by a certain camera wielding human at the window?

I've encountered tame robins before but never at Summer Leys. Although I doubt this one would have fed from my hand it did come very close and wasn't not bothered by my presence at all

Now Watergate does not bother me

This famous line means allot of things to allot people. I think of meathead. If you get that reference my hat is off to you. Meathead and the bunker had many arguments about the current crook at that time.

I am told everyday that JC represents love, forgiveness, a new start. Say what you want. I don't see it. I am not saying it is not there but you have to look good and hard to see it. And I am talking about the believers, not the non believers.

All this hate the spews out of believers mouths. Is that the world we want to live in? I am not saying anything bad or judgy about JC. When believers try to emulate their savior the world is a better place.

But really is this what Jesus would do? Not the JC everyone try's to tell me about and make excuses for all the insanity.

I have a very good friend. He truly walks his walk. Today is his Sabbath until dusk, which he honors every Sabbath. Maybe, Today is the day to think about your relationship with JC.

I, being a non believer, have been told more times than I can count, I was one of the best Christians' they know. Being expressed that they wish more Christians' were like me. Take it at that. I don't know what that means.

Today I am reflecting on love, understanding and acceptance. Me, the non believer that your parents warned you about.

This female Northern Harrier was not skittish to my approach at all. Perhaps it was the rain that bothered her more than my presence.

Happy Caturday!!!

Lions are commonly seen in most parts of Botswana. Even though lions don't like water sightings of lions in the northern Okavango Delta are spectacular. The lions have learnt to thrive there - mainly due to the large buffalo population.

The Lions of Botswana have torn up the rule book as we know it. Lions don't like water, lions seldom, if ever, hunt elephants, hippos and lions need water to survive - these are some of the ideas that we have learnt over the years. In Botswana lions take to the water regularly, lions do hunt elephant and hippo and in some areas of the country lions can go for months without drinking water.

Prides in the Central Kalahari will generally be smaller than the prides in the Okavango and other northern wilderness areas. This is because of the availability of food is less in the drier areas. The larger prides in these arid areas will often split into smaller sub-prides during the dry season.

Home ranges of the lions vary in size for the same reasons - availability of food. In the arid areas the home ranges will be much larger and a great deal of overlapping with neighboring prides occurs.

Lions in the Okavango Delta are adept at negotiating the channels and floodplains to hunt. Prey moves between the islands and lions have to cross the water to follow. – Wikipedia

Priddy mineries.

Record shot: 'Elephant' refers to the Small elephant hawk moth, not the Mendip pigmy mastodon that can be found hiding under bushes around the mines.

Arundel Castle, working home of the Dukes of Norfolk. It isn't anywhere near Norfolk, but don't let it bother you, one of the litttle quirks of English history

Do not bother commenting 'cause I cant comment back at this moment, your visit will do.

Muah and greetings to all of you my friends!!!

I picked up the paper this morning

And read all the daily blues

The world is one big tragedy

I wonder what I can do

About all the pain and injustice

About all of the sorrow

We're living in a danger zone

The world could end tomorrow

But I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight

In the apparent darkness, that sky expresses its brightness in that ray of hope among the clouds, peace and silence, thoughts seem notes on telegraph wires ...then suddenly a presence of a person who happened to be there by chance, who gently asks you if it is bothering you ... and you who were so absorbed in all that beauty do not notice the rest of the world ... but smile, because in the world no one is ever alone. maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Campton/46/53/23

Heidi insists on her share of the newspaper. I try to read it first as she fiercely claims her right of free expression. (Rest assured, she isn‘t focused on U.S. politics alone. She rips the Brazilian and the Chinese head of state to pieces, too. And our local mayor. She's a smart girl.)

Anyway, sadly Heidi isn't a spring kitten anymore, and apart from issues like what I call kitty Parkinson's (some neurological disorder that gives her a sort of tremor from time to time) and an early stadium of chronic renal disease she started developing a tumor on her lower back last winter. We had it removed and it turned out to be fibrosarcoma, which is essentially cancer. It usually doesn't metastasize, but it's hard/impossible to completely get rid of. It just keeps coming back, and you can't keep cutting skin out of a relatively small animal's back. I opted against chemotherapy as I feel that's not something you do to a living being that doesn't understand what they're suffering for. Our vet suggested trying homeopathy, and since there's not much else we can do that's what we're trying. A specialist worked out a treatment plan for us, and we started it last Tuesday after removing the tumor yet again (which is really tricky now, because the skin is so bow-taut on her back now, that a few stitches came off :-(( ). It comes down to some sort of part-time job to slip her antibiotics, pain-killers, renal medicine and two to five homeopathic remedies. Let's just say she's getting used to vast amounts of daily treats.

Her back looks like one of Dr Frankenstein's creations at the moment, but for now she doesn't seem overly bothered by it. I fear we can't win this, but we won't give up that easily.

I always like to get a Harris's Sparrow on my stream in the late Autumn, but they are quite scarce here this fall.

This shot was taken in October two years ago. I didn't bother to process this one because I selected a lateral view from the same location.

Edmonton, Alberta.

Didn't bother to dig up the name of the flower (probably some sort of Lily). It's nice to look at and that's all that matters.

Have a wonderful day, folks!

Celestial bodies breathe down on me

I'm hot and cold and hot and bothered

I'm ricocheting round in my mind can't hear nothing I see

Here walking a tightrope

Ain't looking down you got something to prove, do ya, do ya?

Well, them wayward stares they get mad out here yeah

Disarray, disarray, dis a way, dis a way

The light and the shade, fade

Two steps forward, one step back (Two steps forward, one step back)

Two steps forward, one step back (Two steps forward, one step back)

Two steps forward, one step back (Two steps forward, one step back)

Feel my body won't go back, no

I have some macro photos of forget-me-nots from recent years, so I wasn't going to bother again. But then I relented and bothered. Now I am bothering you with yet another bothersome forget-me-not macro.

We were drinking tea on a balcony and a wombat just wandered out on to the grass below us. He was too busy eating to bother about us.

Beautiful weekend to all and has all

Taken within a minute of the previous photograph of Camille (lurking nearby), this is actually the prelude to a "you don't bother me" yawn.

This beautiful bird seemed a little sleepy too. They do not seem at all bothered by human presence they just carry on as though you are not there. This one sat and moved its head back and fore, I saw three owls, this is probably the same one that I photographed last time. You can see for yourself that it would be pretty well camouflaged in the snow I would think it will be happy on the snow. It is just brilliant to see them.

It is wet and windy this morning, I hope you have a good weekend wherever you are.

This train caught myself and 'white van man' out by departing nearly an hour late but making up most of the time!

He arrived a few seconds after it would have been possible to get a reasonable shot, but look this crazy angle.....why?

Still, I wouldn't have bothered with this going away shot had he not been the secondary subject.
