The way the world looks in some amazing colors and textures with the BlackDragon viewer and how it is so visually rich. This spot, under a lush tree and with cool water was too good to resist today. I've already scoped another spot to take a picture but will save that for the hot days coming.
The song Change by Blind Melon is so positive and inclusive because life is hard, you have to change and that's ok - because we all need to keep dreaming because when you stop dreaming it's time to die. RIP to Shannon Hoon, gone before he should have but he burned so brightly.

We decided on a Sunday to venture out to Bowen Island on Canada Day to spend some time exploring the island. This shot was taken just before debarking from the Horseshoe Bay - Bowen Island ferry.
Towards the end of the day we ended up renting a tandem kayak to chill out along the coast of the island, which would have begun much earlier hadn't it have been for the festivities the night before that left many of the island's restaurant staff with little remaining energy. :)
Needless to say, the coast around the island is stunning. Unfortunately we left the underwater camera at home and I didn't have the guts to take my camera out with us!

Taken at the extra swampy dog park on Beacon Hill. It turns out that all the rain Seattle gets creates mud, and mud ruins shoes. But I'd sacrifice some silly shoes everytime to get a shot like this.
Week #9
Theme: Interpretation of an album cover
This was SUCH a fun assignment to plan and put together. This is my version of the cover of Blind Melon's self-titled debut album, which was released in 1992. I love the song "No Rain" from this album, and have always loved its quirky video. The bee girl still makes me smile, 20 years later.
I made the costume with the help of my mom...she did all the alterations to the body suit...thanks Mom! Thanks also to my daughter Jessica for being my "bee girl"...we had soooo many laughs doing these photos.

Such an undderated band. And another great singer gone. This was at Ziggy's In Winston-Salem after the single for "No Rain" came out... Damn you MTV for overplaying that Bee Girl video (shakes fist mightily)!

I also saw Blind Melon open for Soundgarden and Sister Double Happiness... Before their 1st CD came out. The only people that knew about the band were the ones that heard Shannon was in a Guns-N-Roses video. It was great because they came out into the crowd afterwards and chatted us up. They signed us all up for their mailing list and I got free stuff from them until right before Shannon's death.

Got to Give it Up- Marvin Gaye
Open with an odd one... a particularly long song, but FUNKY AS FUCK! Mmmmm. And the sentiment is sweet, and like myself, basically he used to go to parties and be too shy to "give it up' and dance... but learnt that you just gotta. TARANTISM. I and i deny you not to give it up and wiggle those hips a little when listening to this! So should be a good opener.
Also considered sunny by marv or ain't no mountain high enough. He is also ashamedly the only representative of the soul greats on this comp. Big props to Stevie Curtis, Herbie, Bill and the rest.... Love you guys, you make my life worthwhile!

Just a FUCKING AWESOME TUNE. from the start all the way through. Coldcut at there best.. And everything Mr Manuva touches turns to Gold. This is such a repeatable tune!
Could have had a number of other tunes from Manuva MC, particuarlly Witness or dreamy days, which is quite sublime.

Also the sun setting song on this album is a good laid back tune.
coffee in the pot-Supergrass
A lovely interlude. Supergrass haven't put a foot wrong in over 10 years, deserve so much credit.
Other great supergrass tunes include the obvious but particularly sitting up straight, she's so loose and b-sides off pumping on your stereo... Sick and you'll never walk again. Also as an intermission track i'd've licked to include would be soul limbo by booker t and the MG's, used to be the track they used for the cricket. lovely stuff.

Here as a replacement is the possibility of either just stopped in (to see what condition my condition was in) which is classic, or Lujon or Heard it through the grapevine by CCR which is one of the most accomplished Covers ever!
