I was lucky enough to get this shot just as the wave in the background was starting to break.

'GREY BIRD, GREY DAY.'
If it looks as though this beautiful female Black Redstart was photographed in foggy conditions, she was!
She was favouring the lighthouse garden at Flamborough Head, accompanied by another female plus one male. They were newly arrived migrant birds and moved on after a couple of days.

I went out for a run to Fortrose today and it was just so nice. The low December sun brings out the colours so well. The Black Isle is very similar to Aberdeenshire, it is farming country. There are lots of little roads like this one.
I went to Yellowstone this summer and no bears. I went to the Tetons and still no bears. I went to Olympic National Park and NO FREAKING BEARS. Finally the Shenandoah produced a bear.
The light shows us the way
The necessary black to see the light is like knowing sadness in order to appreciate joy.
Das notwendige schwarz um das Licht zu sehen ist wie Traurigkeit zu kennen um Freude zu schätzen.
A Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapilla) in our yard!
And that's it for this year, my little Chickadees!
Happy New Year!!!
It was a great experience to spend several days close up with Black Bears at the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary in Minnesota.
The forests are quite dense and this makes photography tough with high ISO and shutter speeds often under 1/100 sec.

The black-headed ibis (Threskiornis melanocephalus), also known as the Oriental white ibis, Indian white ibis, and black-necked ibis, is a species of wading bird of the ibis family Threskiornithidae.
It is the only native ibis species in its range that has an overall white plumage with a black neck and head.
The black-headed ibis is one of several large waterbirds in south and south-east Asia, with adults measuring 65–76 cm in length.
This species occurs in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia.
The black-headed ibis is very versatile being able to use a large variety of natural and man-made habitats.

The bear just kept loafing my way, until getting about 50 yards from me -- when I started making some noise to scare it away.
Moments before taking this shot I yelled something like, "Hey, you there! Why not go another way, please?" Or maybe I just blubbered, I can't remember...

(Black-throated Mango / Mango pechinegro)
The black-throated mango is a mainly South American hummingbird species.
The female black-throated mango has bronze-green upperparts and white underparts with a black central stripe.
The food of this species is nectar, often taken from the flowers of large trees. This hummingbird is also notably insectivorous, often hovering in open areas to catch flying insects.
The black-throated mango's breeding season lasts almost year-round in most of its range.
Hummingbird in my backyard. They have been very active recently. I have Rufous, Anna's and Black-chinned Hummingbirds now but the Rufous and Black-chined will be flying south soon. was lucky to get all 3 species in a single day. Many are likely flying south now. Some of the Anna's will stay all winter. West Valley area, Yakima County, Washington. IMG_9788
