Looking from North Head at the mouth of Sydney Harbour across to South Head and the centre of Sydney, which is to the right of the photo. It is hard to believe it is a winter's day.
In the foreground is part of Sydney Harbour National Park. The area was burnt last year in a hazard reduction burn that got out of control.
North Head was a site for military installations during World War II. Some of these remain but the majority of the headland is bushland. Amazingly, the government who owned the land did not sell it off to be developed.
Sydney Harbour has been described as the jewel in Sydney's crown. I think it is easy to see why.

ONE BILLION RISING 2021: RISING GARDENS CAMPAIGN
1 in 3 women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. Every February, we rise – in countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face. We rise through dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.
Thanks Millionaire of the opportunity of having my picture as cover for your awesome group. You are the best!!!
Lofoten is the archipelago to the west in the ocean, north of the Arctic Circle. Located in the northwest of the Norway.
Lofoten is called the pearl of Norway. The beauty of this place is simply staggering.
Its mountains are old, about 3.5 billion years, and have some of the world's oldest rock types.

There are nine million bicycles in Beijing
That's a fact,
It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I will love you till I die.
We are twelve billion light years from the edge,
That's a guess,
No-one can ever say it's true
But I know that I will always be with you.
I'm warmed by the fire of your love everyday
So don't call me a liar,
Just believe everything that I say
There are six BILLION people in the world
More or less
and it makes me feel quite small
But you're the one I love the most of all
[INTERLUDE]
We're high on the wire
With the world in our sight
And I'll never tire,
Of the love that you give me every night
There are nine million bicycles in Beijing
That's a Fact,
it's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I will love you till I die
And there are nine million bicycles in Beijing
And you know that I will love you till I die!
I'm In a Mood Atm This Is how I feel.
🎵If the stars were made to worship so will I
If the mountains bow in reverence so will I
If the oceans roar Your greatness so will I
For if everything exists to lift You high so will I
If the wind goes where You send it so will I
If the rocks cry out in silence so will I
If the sum of all our praises still falls shy
Then we'll sing again a hundred billion time🎵
Kyashi got all excited at the mention of Chinese Ink paintings by Fiona Fei and ran off to Shi Mo Gallery. She found much more and though maybe a bit overdressed, had to join in and be One in a Billion. (it also gave me a chance to work with adding highlights ;) )

Well, these building may not be the first to catch the eye along Billionaire Row just south of Central Park but I couldn't resist the composition. I thought it interesting to find window A/C units and an old school water tank in real estate that runs way into the millions if not billions. A lot was being prepared for another skyscraper.
Technical Note: The perspective of this image drove me crazy, I couldn't figure out why the bottom of the center-right plane of the building looked a bit off (pulled in) even though the vertical lines are pretty straight. I thought it might have something to do with straightening the perspective or perhaps some lens distortion going on. What I concluded after plenty of study is it's a bit of an optical illusion with the four rows of lower windows having a different horizontal spacing than the top four rows! The result is that they tend to "pull" the image to the right a bit, IMO. Anyway, it was fun trying to figure this out and I was relieved that I didn't have to blame my 24-70. I shot this at 55mm which is a focal length I don't use too often for buildings. That being said, I'll have to run a few field tests next time I'm around tall buildings to confirm my hypothesis.

What does it even mean to be 1.5 billion years old? Carbon dating has confirmed the rocks at Cameron Falls to be Precambrian, at that age. To think of that much time is just mind blowing. Can you imagine finding some kind of fossilized life in the stones? How incredible would that be?!
OMG!!!!

One Billion Rising in Second Life invites YOU to stand with ONE voice for an important Campaign:
"One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence) in human history. German war graveyard on top of the Jvari Pass (Kreuzpass). German prisoners of war had to work on the "Georgian Military Road" crossing the Jvari pass and equip it with avalanche protections. About 200 of them died in this place in the years from 1946 to 1950. Of an estimated total of 40,000 German POWs in Georgia, 8,000 died in those years.
My own grandfather was a POW in Russia as well and only returned in the early 1950's, alive though. Got me thinking.
Nowadays, the Chinese are working on building a 9km long tunnel, making the pass road superfluous and speeding up traffic. The cost runs up to half a billion dollars but being run by Chinese, the whole thing will be built within a few years and already the valleys on both sides of the mountain are gigantic construction sites.

This is dedicated to Betelgeuse. Rumour has it, it exploded and we'll see the evidence one day soon. Or not. In any event? This is for you, most strangely named star who might or might not be gone. Oh and also? Happy Gorgeous Green Thursday.
somewhat surprisingly, there was ten billion dollars worth of gold bullion in there. Time to buy a better camera!
This bird got its name from its superficial resemblance to the Wild Turkey. As it has feet more like a chicken than an eagle, it is the only scavenger bird that cannot kill its prey. Its powerful beak, however, can rip through even the toughest cow hide. If a Turkey Vulture is disturbed or pestered, it throws up on whatever is bothering it.
Most birds cannot smell. Not so with the Turkey Vulture, which has one of the most sensitive noses of all animals. It can discern the scent of rotting flesh in concentrations as small as a few parts per billion in the air and up to 6.5 miles away! You can see through its nasal openings, really one large opening, which allows air to flow directly over the olfactory nerves.
A group of perched vultures is called a wake. Kettles are groups of vultures spiraling upward to gain altitude in thermal updrafts. Note the uplifted wings in a sort of "V" shape. This is helpful in identifying them at a distance.
Layers maded up of Granite pegmatite and Granodiorite layers dominate this cliff in Shoshone canyon west of Cody Wyoming. Some back mica horneblend schist can be seen in the lower right of the photo. These metamorphic and Igneous rocks date to around 2.6 billion years ago. Geologist call that time period during the Precambrian the Archean Eon. These rocks represent a time when Wyoming was a separate microcontinent called the Wyoming Craton which existed 500 million years before the North American Continent formed.
"Sometimes the cord likes to break
Sometimes the light tries to bend away
Sometimes you're thrust against the wall
Sometimes the world wants to see you crawl
And you can't decide if it's enough
You can't decide if it's enough
Six billion lives looking for love
You can't decide if it's enough
The end is the same for everyone
Should be enough for us to be as one
Watch me fall apart over you
Watch me fall apart
Tryna please you
And you can't decide if it's enough
You can't decide if it's enough
Six billion lives looking for love
And you can't decide if it's enough"

Recently we passed by Mono Lake in California. The lake has iconic tufa towers. You can see the Milky Way - it was new moon, there is no light pollution.
The Milky Way is our galaxy. From the latest Hubble telescope observation we learned that there are at least 100 billion galaxies in the universe. We are just tiny tiny creatures in this vast space.
