“...but beautiful mosaics are made of broken pieces.”
― Lori Jenessa Nelson
Mosaic work on the exterior of an abandoned building.
During the past week.... I ran (slowly), I did yoga (badly), I offered to do a favor for a co-worker and move his car... I couldn’t start it, I locked myself in it somehow and then set off the car alarm (my intentions were good...how do these things happen?), I ran out of gas in my car, I cried (a lot), I ate in another place where they don’t give you plates (even when you ask for them...yes, I only dine in the finest establishments!), I laughed, I discovered that even though it’s spring, I still need my electric blanket (and maybe a blanket at my desk at work too), I worried, I wanted to give up and quit EVERYTHING and run away, I treated a friend to something she deserves but wouldn’t do for herself, I saw three wonderful pileated woodpeckers on one tree, and I was brave, and I was honest, and I moved forward...and I cross my fingers.... and I have hope....... “Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days.” Yes to better days.
I always liked this simple photo and thought it symbolic of looking towards better days ahead . . . as I am sure they'll come for me.
This huge tree in our backyard misinterpreted Autumn as Fall. Luckily nobody got hurt and the demage was low. But the cooling effect of this tree will be missed badly.
After a decade of fighting relegation - and it finally happening last May - there is a new spirit around Birmingham City. New owners, new players, new manager, new optimism. Five games, four wins, one draw, and some brilliant football are making it a great experience down at St Andrews. And before the 3–1 win over Wrexham the crowds were milling in the evening sunset outside the Kop.

I visited the old Schoolroom at the Unitarian Chapel on Kendal's Heritage Open Days. The Chapel, hidden away behind the marketplace, is from 1720, and the Schoolroom was added in 1882. It is almost as big as the Chapel itself, and has played its part in the town's history, as the location for many community meetings, and as a place for the local Muslim community to worship. In November 2022, part of the ceiling fell down. The congregation is fundraising to get it fixed and get the room back in service.

It's been raining all day today, so the little dog and I did not practice #socialdistancing with a walk in the neighborhood. So, a little digging in the archive, and we are transported back a year ago, with some images from the Faroe islands, and Norway.

What could be better than a Christmas with unicorns riding dinosaurs?
Well, okay, unicorn dinosaurs riding rainbows.
And Santas with hobbies.
At World Market in West Hartford, CT.
I wish I had captured the moment pictured here... but I have to confess, this is a collage. It's a marriage of a San Clemente moment with a Washington sunrise. But, it symbolizes freedom from stress and abandonment of things that keep us tied down. It's been a stressful few weeks and days in Washington but we're trying to soar above it all.
the illusion to dream that everything is not finished and better days will come.

This beech tree has undoubtedly seen better days, when the Sun was mostly up, and the Earth was mostly down. Potential to revisit here for autumn colour.
Single shot from many slightly different attempts to frame up and expose the sky in different ways.
In post processing, a fair bit of work to recover shadows from a generally underexposed shot and a crop to tighten in the focus on the tree.
I've given this a 4:3 crop, but a 16:9 might be better.
This old bucket has seen better days
New and shiny, smooth and tough
Strong and sturdy, rugged and stout
Whether water, sand or soil
It carried with unbridled joy
Proud to be tough, to rough it out
But the years had taken its toll
Knocked and dropped, dented and cracked
Soldered and patched, when it got too bad
Discarded like a soiled rag
Another story, sad
