Angel (the cupcake store owner) and Pearl the Pastry Chef have become best friends. I got up early one morning and found them baking together. Angel is getting ready to decorate some cupcakes and Pearl is making a strawberry shortcake.

By the way, did you know that tomorrow (June 14th) is National Strawberry Shortcake Day? I had no idea. I also missed National Best Friends day (June 8), which would have been the best day to post this photo :-)

The best Valentine's day wake up ever.

I am sometimes amazed by the tender and loving behavior I have seen animals exhibit to each other. Obviously facial expressions don't work for most animals so it has to be behavioral. Here two Sitka Black-tailed bucks are nuzzling each other and obviously enjoying it at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The deer came here when they were found orphaned otherwise they would not have survived in the wild. It's interesting to see this behavior for these two bucks as they will fight each other for the ability to mate with does. So, maybe they are saying, "Forgive me for what I'm about to do to you?"

If there is a contest I don't get a vote, but this was the most perfect thing: the Doris B, a ship's boat replica built in red cedar by Ray Speck. Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival.

I have this fascination with the very tiny green sweat bees. This shot is my best effort so far at showing one in full profile...hence the need to share it.

I've been mining the archives while lying low because of feeling shitty, happens every January, arrgh ... and found this image taken with my son's fish eye lens while out walking after dark. I think this restaurant has been in Tsawwassen a long time, I remember going with my son when he was younger, he liked the Smorgasbord, especially the deep fried prawns, now I avoid food that's deep fried, always suffer afterwards, and "all you can eat" is also not enticing anymore, gluttony is not as enjoyable as it once was :)

Millipedes are a group of arthropods that are characterised by having two pairs of jointed legs on most body segments - they are known scientifically as the class Diplopoda (the name being derived from this feature).

Most millipedes are slow-moving detritivores, eating decaying leaves and other dead plant matter. Some eat fungi or suck plant fluids, and a small minority are predatory.

We have around 2000 millipede species here in Australia.

Mach Loop Bwlch top shelf 26.04.2016

I am very much an opportunist as far as the Loop is concerned. I don't have the privilege of tip offs or contacts within squadrons like some do unfortunately.

I will book a day off work, drive to Mid Wales climb a big hill and just hope for the best. I arrived at the Bwlch car park just before 8am and it was full! Last time it was like this I had a good day.... Today was probably the most memorable day I will ever have in the loop.

Started off well with a Tornado GR4, then a Hawk. Then it got interesting, Belgians in the Lichfield Corridor over the scanner requesting Low Fly. Awesome! F16s through the loop, really pleased!

A little longer passed and we endured a full blown blizzard for about 20 minutes. Once the snow passed the skies cleared and then we waited. Americans over the scanner, Rage was the call sign, F15's were on the way! As they neared then they began talking about the formation, they had Raptors in tow!!!!

I was really pleased to receive this e-mail, notifying me that I'm the winner of the Best Portfolio 2019 international contest, organized by the Blank Wall gallery in Athens.

More details to come.

Hello flickr, how have you been?

Thank you all for the well-wishes and emails during my absence. I'm fine, I've just been lazy. I needed to check out for a while, and I did just that. It's likely I won't be around as much in the near future: its winter and I seem to lose a lot of motivation. I have a hard time finding the beauty in things when I can't feel my toes and its dark @ 4:30pm. I'm still trying to shoot and I've got lots of archive stuff (see above) so I don't think I'll be going dormant. A photo a day seems like a bit of a stretch though.

Photographically speaking, 2009 was a pretty amazing year for me. Much of my success is due to the amazing network of contacts and friends I've developed here. Your commentary and criticism is fantastic, your work is inspiring. All of you drive me is some way to become a better storyteller through photos. You all rock, I really can't thank you enough.

So, Happy (much belated) New Year. I wish you the very best in 2010, I cant wait to see what you have to show in the coming year!

the title works best if you sing it.

These guys had been dying for weeks to taste the water in the creek.

Depending on which way you go, this is what you get to drive on as you leave (or enter) Raccoon Creek State Park towards (or from) Rt. 30. Big fun!

Our kitty Frodo knows a good place for taking a nap when he sees it.

As it so happens, whenever my sister gets up and leaves a room for any amount of time Frodo will usually find his way over to where she was sitting and claim that space as his own. Within minutes he's fast asleep, looking as angelic as ever.

And if you ask him why he stole his mom's place, he'll simply tell you he was keeping it warm until she returned. So here he is, keeping the chair in my sister's computer room warm.
