St Lawrence, Bradfield, Essex

Open. This church is always open in daylight hours. The best church of the day. A big cruciform church with a western tower, looking ruggedly Norman but probably rebuilt in the 14th century.

You enter through a modern extension, very reminiscent of Whittlesford in Cambridgeshire. The church is full of light and full of delights, excellent windows by Rosemary Rutherford, Edward Burne-Jones and John Hardman. Full of interest, and in a joint parish with Mistley, which is also open every day, of course.

I need to go back because I messed up the exteriors, thinking I had autofocus locked on when I hadn't, but on this occasion I pumped up my rapidly deflating rear tyre and limped back to Manningtree station, past the towers of John Nash's lost Mistley church, and was home in time for tea.

New knitted outfits

Ya'll probably remember when Katie did the practice run painting my face a couple of weeks ago. She painted our faces for the First Friday ride, and we ended up at the Dia de Muertitos festival at Say Si. It was funny because we were given strange looks most of the night. However, when we showed up at the festival where people were paying to have their faces painted, everyone was so jealous of our awesomeness.

Our plans were much more elaborate than what actually happened, but we still had a blast!

In Rego Park, Queens. It's been there for decades, but was closing up for good a few weeks after this.

THE BEST MACARON IN PARIS...THE SEARCH FOR THE BEST TASTING MACARON IN PARIS...PARIS 2011- PIERRE HERME & CHRISTOPHE ROUSSEL are the winners

"the French Revolution was NOT caused by politics, but by a discussion on who makes the best macaron in paris." adda dada ............................................................................................................................OVERHEARD: AMERICANS IN PARIS " I bought a full box of PIERRE HERME macarons for a dinner party. I could not resist. Please, I need four replacement macarons for the ones I ate this afternoon! ", said Elena Bravo to the understanding PIERRE HERME clerk.

PIERRE HERME is a new comer to the MACARON WARS of PARIS. Their macarons are extremely tasty and absolutely beautiful. They are a top contender for the FIRST PLACE along with another new macaroon pastry shop: CHRISTOPHE ROUSSEL who hails from the south of France and is making his mark with incredible unique flavors.

CHRISTOPHE ROUSSEL has a first, and it is the most outstanding new macaron. The chocolate-covered chocolate macaron! It is sure to win laurels as the MOST UNIQUE MACAROON in the PARIS MACARON WARS OF 2011!

So, are Fauchon and Laduree in the ONE STAR CATEGORY?

Bizarrely, YES

I went for another round of the Macaron Wars and found FAUCHON and LADUREE to both be wanning today of the wallop of gourmet chocolate taste. Granted both are highly desirable in many circles. Both are high end gourmet fashion houses. Both are uniquely designed with signature decor and highly prized locations. Both are so-so compared to the two new upstarts and an old competitor.

The upset is ANGELINA on the rue Rivoli across from the jardins du tullieries. It really kicked the two top well known macaron producers out of the competition! !

ANGELINA produced a macaron with a lovely color and chocolate taste that lingered delicately on one's palate.

Two top tourist contenders have falling stars ( Fauchon & Laduree ).

An old institution moves in ( ANGELINA).

Two newer macaron shops shine and sparkle Pierre HERME and Christophe ROUSSEL .

And one big producer steps up to the palate ( Eric KAISER ).

The Paris Macaroon Wars are ON!

Wow. Never did I expect the two top tourist and chi-chi Paris macaron haunts to be only ONE STAR instead of a four or five.

MCDONALD's has the worst ever, as well as some grocery store on rue Fauborg...both were spitted out and thrown away...

Life is too short for a crappy macaron

The Macaron Wars continue onward to new heights, and surprisingly, new lows.

Three weeks into the Paris Macaroon Wars...over 50 macs...at 200 calories each. Oh my

Remembering and sending my best wishes to a dear friend.
