CSX 2111 was the regular yard engine assigned to the former Western Maryland Railway yard at West Virginia Central Jct for many years during the early and mid 1990s. The primary purpose of the yard was to serve the large WESTVACO paper mill at Luke, MD, which is seen in the background of this view at Beryl, WV.
This is one of the hottest springs there in Yellowstone that is around 192 degrees F.
Best not to get too close ...

Small tanager found in Andean subtropical zone from Venezuela to Bolivia. Unmistakable: entire body boldly spotted with bright blue-green, sharply contrasting with black mask and back. No other tanager has such a spangled appearance. Sexes alike. A fairly common member of mixed flocks from around 1,500–2,500 m, within forest and also at edges or in second growth.
At La Minga Eco Lodge, Colombia.
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

The drums of Africa still beat in my heart
— Mary Bethune
It's been several decades since I visited Kenya, Africa, but there are certain memories that still remain fairly vivid...like the sounds of the night, frightening shrieks of animals in the distance, that froze me to my bed. The bed in the small hut we stayed at for a couple of days was surrounded by white mosquito netting. It did not provide much protection, I thought, from those wild howls of death that awakened me. I pinched myself, literally, to see if I was in a vivid dream. Yet Africa was by far the country I would most likely want to return to. I cannot describe the fascination, the magic of that continent. It has to be experienced first hand.
Beryl Markham said it best for me: Africa is mystic; it is wild; it is a sweltering inferno; it is a photographer’s paradise, a hunter’s Valhalla, an escapist’s Utopia. It is what you will, and it withstands all interpretations. It is the last vestige of a dead world or the cradle of a shiny new one. To a lot of people, as to myself, it is just home.

I have no idea how old the cows are that are at the farm. I was assuming they were all about 3 or 5 but after taking this photo of Beryl and looking at her teeth or lack of teeth I'm thinking maybe Beryl may be up there in years.
Beryl is a lovely quiet, no fuss cow. I love her squatty face and big eyes.
Not knowing her history, I wonder how many farms she has lived on? How many calves she has had? How many times her heart has been broken? How many friends has she lost or been separated from?
This picture was taken at San Jorge de Guacamayos Wildlife Sanctuary during the Magic Birding and Photo Circuit . Best birding photography in Latinamerica!
A day at the seaside yesterday at Wells-next-the-Sea, and it was a glorious day apart from maybe 20 mins of light rain later on. Beryl really enjoyed her time there.

Beryl was famous for racing on big gears. This is the 68T chainring that was fitted to the tandem she and daughter Denise (as stoker) used to set tandem competiton records towards the end of their racing careers.
Denise Burton-Cole displays it here at the launch of a new Beryl Burton biography by Jeremy Wilson at Morley library on 27 July 2022.
