Yesterday (February 12th, 2011), Carlos and I went to see Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch. He was reading parts of his book at Rough Trade West. I enjoyed it more than I expected. Just to start he gave sheets to everyone with sentences saying "find someone who...", all the people in the store had 3 minutes to mingle and find people who had done something from the list, pretty fun and ice-breaking, I felt like I was at the English school again.

Belle and Sebastian Write about Love is the eighth studio album by Belle and Sebastian released on 11 October 2010. The album is the second collaboration between Belle and Sebastian and Tony Hoffer, who produced their previous album, The Life Pursuit. Two tracks from the album were played by the band during their 2010 tour. I Didn't See It Coming is a duet featuring Stuart Murdoch and Sarah Martin, while I'm Not Living in the Real World features Stevie Jackson primarily on vocals. On 16 August 2010, another track was announced, titled I Want the World to Stop

Belle and Sebastian are a Scottish band formed in Glasgow in 1996. Led by Stuart Murdoch, the band has released eleven albums. They are often compared with acts such as The Smiths and Nick Drake. Their comes from Belle et Sébastien, a 1965 children's book by French writer Cécile Aubry later adapted for television. Though consistently lauded by critics, Belle & Sebastian's "wistful pop" has enjoyed only limited commercial success

At the Hollywood Forever Cemetery Belle and Sebastian show, amongst the graves and palm trees in the background. The concert was on the Fairbanks Lawn, named because both Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Jr. are buried at one end.
No offense to Sarah Martin. I mean, she really is very talented. But, it's just that Isobel Campbell was part of Belle and Sebastian before her and when the band was at its prime. Well, actually, I hate to admit it but Belle and Sebastian hasn't been nearly that great without her. Tigermilk, If You're Feeling SInister, and The Boy with the Arab Strap especially were amazing. I've liked the band's recent stuff okay but not nearly as much.
There was something very odd and yet interesting about the way Campbell's vocals mixed with Mark Lanegan's at Lincoln Hall this past Friday. For more photos and a review, go here:
