I'm seeing Belle and Sebastian tonight in Chicago but I won't be shooting it...I have started to become a little more reserved in the bands I am photographing, partly because of the pandemic and partly because I already have thousands of photos of this band over the past 15+ years that I've been photographing. It's a little more anxiety provoking for me to be up front considering our situation right now (Chicago is actually moving from a medium to high transmission rate also) and I just feel like it's not worth it if I already have the photos.
I'm still happy and excited to see this band, though. I will never forget when I was in college and I spent the money that should have gone to food on the Lazy Line Painter Jane boxset instead. I've loved them for 25 years! Maybe learning to just listen and enjoy without photographing is a new type of love that is growing in me.

This is a human I traveled all the way to Scotland to photograph in his home city and what a great trip it was!

A big reason why I flew to Scotland was to photograph one of my favorite bands in their home city of Glasgow. The Glasgow Bowlie Weekender was a delight! So many great bands! Coverage of day one is already up and I’ll be working on day two while on the airplane back to Chicago…sigh. bigtakeover.com/concerts/the-glasgow-weekender-day-one-sw...
I've said this before but when I was in college around 1998 or 1999, a friend brought a burned copy of Tigermilk that a boy he'd been dating had been given I believe on a trip to Scotland. We all hovered around because music fans treat such treasures like a holy grail. And, we put on the record and my life changed forever. Belle and Sebastian has followed me around for about 25 years as one of the soundtracks to my life. So, anyway, it's Stuart Murdoch's birthday. I hope he's having a good day because he's created so much of the music I love.

I'm a much bigger fan of Belle and Sebastian than Elvis Costello, I have to admit, though both musicians have amazing songs and catalogues. Stuart Murdoch reaches me on a completely different type of emotional level, though. I've been a Belle and Sebastian fan since my friend Josh gave me their cd Tigermilk after a trip to Scotland. That was in 1999 or maybe a little before, so I have been a fan for nearly 20 years. Here's a shot of Stuart Murdoch performing at the Riviera Theater in Chicago with the projection behind him. It's a more subtle shot because he's not dancing around like he can from time to time but it's a real sentimental shot for me and I love these lads looking out from the screen behind.

It was really lovely to hear Belle and Sebastian play all of If You're Feeling Sinister, a wonderful album.
In case you don't know the album, here's a link to the first track to see if you'd like it. It's basically quintessential Scottish twee/folk and let it play out. Let it grow on you...you'll be craving it before you know it.

Taken with Retrica on Sony Xperia phone at Open, Norwich. First time at the venue for a gig. Think I liked it but not sure it would suit a rowdy crowd. Band played great and really involved the crowd.

'Twas my first Belle and Sebastian show (I never felt dedicated enough to deserve to go the last couple times through town), and boy - boy, oh boy. 'Stars of Track and Field' as an opening number is always a good sign. Then came the best songs of the new Life Pursuit, some crowd-pleasers ('Electric Renaissance,' 'Fox in the Snow,' 'Your Cover's Blown,') and a couple of my favorite songs - period ('Dog on Wheels,' 'The State I Am In.') The encore brought 'Judy and the Dream of Horses,' and aside from all of that, there was a kick line with some female audience members and Stuart, a couple fainting fans, and Sarah and my little smile connection. She's adorable, but I think I just solidified my lust for Stevie Jackson - the boy is a dreamboat. What a truly beautiful show. No one does beautiful like these Scotsmen. Belle and Sebastian is: Stuart Murdoch, Stevie Jackson, Sarah Martin, Chris Geddes, Richard Colburn, Mick Cooke, and Bobby Kildea.

Girl in the snow, where will you go to find someone that will do? To tell someone all the truth before it kills you.
They listen to your crazy laugh before you hang a right and disappear from sight
What do they know anyway?
I re-did all my final paintings for my upcoming exhibition. They now look like this! This was my first time drawing/painting a fox, and im pretty pleased.
goauche and pencil on 330gsm paper.
Reminds me a lot of this from Belle & Sebastian, of course one of my favourite bands ever.

I photographed Belle and Sebastian, who I have been a fan of for about 20 years for the site The LIne of the Best Fit. I noticed this audience member towards the end of the band's set and took his photo during "The Boy with the Arab Strap" while he was watching from a nearby balcony. There was something about his style posture and the way the light was coming from the stage in that moment that drew me in. Anyhow, photos of the band Belle and Sebastian here:

Central Library of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). The Library is located at the main campus, which was declared a World Heritage Site on june 2007, and it is particularly famous for the murals painted by Juan O'Gorman
I had a spare roll of film lying around, so I had an idea to use a few frames to take pictures of the words 'Belle and Sebastian Write About Love'.
The words were in black lettering on a white background, so as to create the starkest contrast that would show up on a negative...
(If the words are too tiny, here's a closer look at the negative:
Day 128. Went to see Belle & Sebastian this evening at the Open venue in Norwich.
Not that easy taking photos at a gig on a compact camera having people jumping up and down in front of you and after drinking several beers!
Really good gig; the highlight being loads of people from the audience being invited up onto stage for crowd pleaser "The Boy With The Arab Strap".

I try lots of shots like this at concerts but there is only ever the odd one that I really like.
