Memories, a San Francisco trip… 10 years ago.

"Huis de papegaai". Bergstraat 19, Deventer.

There is no escape!

this girl was playing in this iron grill when she saw me taking her picture. i couldn't get a smile from her but this expression suits me just fine.

It's been a busy year, and the traffic lights are off on holiday!

When I clean out the housing of our guinea-pig Pebbles...the dogs get locked up in their own room. Especially Alex loves her a lot! (For dinner) And I always have to smile when I see them waiting to get out...

As soon as Alex enters the room again, he inspects the cage if I did not forget to lock it...

He will never get lucky... I always close it!

since my partner comes back tonight from her trip... today is my last day behind bars!!! yey!!!!

Freedom's just a few steps away.

Shot this at the flea market. A bunch of baby goats where for sale, crammed into a small cage. i hope they all found a good home and lots of grass land to graze on....

Ps' Around here the goats are mostly used to free graze on grass like cheap lawn mowers. Some farmers milk them to make goat cheese. It's really not a bad life after they have their freedom from being cadged

Make a prison visit

I found a place where I could get some night time bokeh shots. The bokeh is made up of traffic lights and a few neon signs (including a McDonalds).

This was one of my test shots - to check whether I was getting the proper bokeh I wanted. But after processing, I liked this one much better than the actual shot - most probably because of its simplicity - even though it was pretty close call between the two.

I was visiting the Ainu village in Shiraoi, Hokkaido. It is a beautiful place, and the people were so nice - you can see the sea right near here in one of my earlier pictures here.

As part of their exhibition of Ainu culture, they keep huge brown bears and these beautiful dogs, all kept in cages far too small for them. I didn't want to show any pictures of the bears, who were constantly taunted by a seemingly endless barrage of Thai tourists - it's too sad for words.

The dogs, running around their cages in circles, appeared irritated. As soon as I came near, this one jumped up, looking at me with those eyes. Ahh, those eyes! How I wanted to take him home.

It's 2011 now - these kinds of conditions should be banned - as should the use of animals for circuses and other forms of "entertainment". What do you think? Look into this dog's eyes, and then answer...

I have a question for PS/LR users . When i was editing this in PS, there was more of a reddish hue on the image(both in PS and LR). But after saving it, the reddish hue is gone! Does anyone know why ?

It looks different on Facebook! Whats going on ?!

Vidalia has been a tremendous gift to me, given on the back porch, in a trap meant for a feral with a broken leg [my beloved Winston, trapped later and released]. This incredibly gorgeous feral/stray adolescent female appeared in my life and has successfully stolen my heart. Is she serving time for that? I actually wondered if Vidalia would have a deep drive to return to her former stomping grounds. . . she didn't show an interest in going outside once her kittens were born. I figured she would once they were gone. She didn't. Once the weather warms up, she'll try to head back outside, I reasoned. . . while Vidalia has been acutely aware of the happenings in the yard, she has not been determined to head back out there. I wondered if our house would feel a bit like a prison to her, but she adjusted fabulously. You would never know she once was on the other side of the walls. . .

Do rich people ever go to jail? Mostly no. Pres. Trump was recently charged with Federal Crimes. Here's the official doc: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.flsd.648653/...

"Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all.

Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild.

So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them

they somehow fly out past you."

Can be in the darndist of places!

With the launch this week of the new Syria Crisis Appeal by UNICEF, WFP, WHO, UNHCR and UN OCHA to draw greater attention to the devastating impact of two years of conflict on the Syrian people (especially children and women), I am revisiting my collection of photos from my trips to Syria in 2010.

This image jumped out right away, where three children gaze at me from behind the window bars of their house in Aleppo (known locally as Halab). I strongly hope their home remains intact and they are continuing to live normal lives but I fear it has been destroyed, like much of Aleppo, or they have had to flee with their families to one of the surrounding areas or countries.

Today, this image speaks to me as a metaphor for the children trapped in a conflict they cannot escape from. I only can hope that the international community and political actors in Syria will peacefully solve this crisis soon, without further suffering and loss of life.

Aleppo, Syria, 2010

Once there was a young monkey named Alex, who lived in a rough neighborhood. Growing up, Alex had always felt like an outsider and struggled to find a sense of belonging. This all changed when he met a group of monkeys from his neighborhood who had formed a gang. They welcomed him with open arms and he finally felt like he had a place where he belonged.

Despite not committing any crime, Alex was falsely accused of organized crime by the police, who had mistaken him as part of the group. Despite his protests of innocence and lack of evidence, he was still sentenced to life in prison.

In prison, Alex was isolated and alone. He was often targeted by rivaling gangs and had to defend himself, which led to more charges and longer sentence. He sometimes sees his friends from childhood but they were not the same, they were broken and beaten by the reality of prison. They don't have fun anymore, they are just trying to survive.

Alex knows that he will die in his cold cell, alone and far away from his home, his family and the life he once had. He had no way to prove his innocence and his voice was not heard.

The justice system is not perfect, and innocent people can be falsely accused and punished. It is important to question authority and to fight for justice, even if it seems like an uphill battle.
