Here's another batch of oldies but goodies from my 35 mm days. These are scanned images of my past prints.
This is me dare I say over 20 years ago!
We were tailgating when these guys came by looking for a miracle. In other words they were looking for tickets to the show. The funny thing is we hadn't gotten tickets yet either. Somehow we all got our miracle and got into the show.

OOOH BAAAAAABY!
Tonight we went to see the Afghan Whigs at our favorite venue in Philly. Holy fuckballs, the show was AMAZING. The set list was amazing, the band was insanely tight, and Mr. Greg Dulli was in fine, fine, fine form. We'd seen them back in May and while it was a good show, it ended up registering as a bit of a non-event. Tonight? Not a non-event. Tonight was an e-motherfucking-VENT. Just like after seeing the Whigs at ATP in 2012, we were all completely keyed up for hours afterwards. There's just something about having "Faded" stuck in your head after a full Whigs show that makes a girl want to keep walking on air for hours.
Also, the wonderful Kishi Bashi seems to have smashed our 2014 Opening Act curse, as tonight's opener (Joseph Arthur) was delightful.
The best part about it all? We get to do it all over again tonight, this time at the Beacon in NYC! OOOOOH BABY!

DeVotchKa is a four piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble that fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, Mariachi (and many more styles) music with American punk and folk roots. They take their name from Anthony Burgess' Nadsat word for "young girl," which is itself derived from the Russian word (Đ´ĐµĐ²Đ¾Ñ‡ĐºĐ°) of the same meaning. Based in Denver, Colorado, the quartet is made up of Nick Urata, who sings and plays theremin, guitar, bouzouki, piano, and trumpet; Tom Hagerman, who plays violin, accordion, and piano; Jeanie Schroder, who sings and plays sousaphone and double bass; and Shawn King, who plays percussion and trumpet. [From Wikipedia]
Testing an unusual musical instrument, the theremin, one that needs no direct touch to release sounds. The basis of his construction is radio frequencys, manipulated through external antennas, that "feel" the position of the player's hands. (more info in Wikipedia

After the Great Buffalo Ski Debacle of '15, we had some concerns that our Doing mojo was gone. It didn't feel like we'd had one bad outing -- it felt somehow more momentously awful than that. So we were not feeling good about our plans tonight to go to Philly to see a Kishi Bashi String Quartet show at Union Transfer. We were confident everything would find a way to suck.
It should be noted here that Kishi Bashi was, when all was said and done, our favorite live music experience in 2014. He opened for Rodrigo y Gabriela, and we had no idea what to expect from him. What we got was the most beautiful, energetic, inventive, electrifying performance ever. Just awesome. But that show was him performing solo; what was this whole "string quartet" thing? We wondered if it meant he was playing some sort of string quartet-y compositions? Or was he playing the music we've since obsessively listened to since that introduction to him months ago, and would familiarity with the content make the concert less exciting? Would some of the Kishi Bashi magic be lost if we knew what to expect?
As it turns out, we shouldn't have worried. Our Doing mojo is back, baby! We had a fantastic dinner at our favorite "Philly concert" restaurant, had no trouble with parking at the venue, and got there just when the doors were opening, so we didn't have to wait outside in the cold. Then, it was a seated show (YES! SCORE!), so we got awesome seats on a little raised area not too far from the stage, where no one was sitting immediately in front of us. Super view! Woo hoo! And then the show started.
Dude, any concern that a Kishi Bashi show would be less than magical was sorely misplaced. Vastly so. He is amazing. The addition of the string quartet made for lush orchestration, and he explained a few times how excited he was to be able to finally perform his songs the way he wanted them to be played. But even with the extra instrumentation, there was still tons of the improvisation and "electronic composition" stuff he does with looping and distortion pedals and all that awesome stuff. And he also had a banjo player whose banjo lit up in different colors, and which he played with a mallet. With a mallet! (We're big fans of non-traditional banjo music.) Kishi Bashi's stage presence is delightful; he was chatty and fun and funny, and frequently cracked up, and the entire vibe was just so fantastic. And after a wildly dynamic, incredible set, he and the quartet and banjo player came out for a fully acoustic encore. They went up to the front of the stage, invited the crowd to come as close as possible, and they played one more song literally completely unplugged. It was one of his songs that's impossible not to sing along to, and it was so sweet to hear the crowd all quietly singing, too, everyone participating but still wanting to hear every acoustic, un-microphoned note.
We say about a lot of our shows that they were the best thing ever, but you know what? We mean it about this one. It was spectacular. It was thrilling to hear the arrangements of so many of our favorite songs, a privilege to get to see such a dynamic performer in such fine form, and soul-warming to get to share the evening with a full, enthusiastic room of fellow travelers.

Once again on Thursday, June 7, 2007, we lounged around the timeshare, enjoying the sun on the patio. Then Carl and I took a cab to MGM and ate lunch at Wolfgang Puck's. We crossed the strip (overhead bridge) to the Tropicana and viewed the "Bodies" Exhibit. We quickly returned to the resort by cab and changed clothes. Carl and I took a cab to the Mirage and attended the show, "Love - The Beatles" by Cirque du Soleil . Afterwards we took a tram next door to TI (Treasure Island) where we had a quick supper and enjoyed an interesting show at Kahunaville and did some late night shopping knowing that we would be leaving in the morning.

This was the view from where I was standing (2nd row) last night right before the band came onstage. It was magical. VIEW MORE PHOTOS HERE!
I also accidentally set my P&S to take photos at something awful like 600x480 ONLY, so that's why this photo is so small! D'oh.
