Barley is a big part of the local landscape here - and the ripening and harvest of the crop colours our world. This was taken before the cut, when the fields were a rich gold. And the lyrics of Sting's song fit so well:
"You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in fields of gold"

Will I see you give
more than I can take?
Will I only harvest some?
As the days fly past
will we lose our grasp
or fuse it in the sun?

Before the Battle
~Siegfried Sassoon - 1886-1967~
Music of whispering trees
Hushed by the broad-winged breeze
Where shaken water gleams;
And evening radiance falling
With reedy bird-notes calling.
O bear me safe through dark, you low-voiced streams.
I have no need to pray
That fear may pass away;
I scorn the growl and rumble of the fight
That summons me from cool
Silence of marsh and pool,
And yellow lilies islanded in light.
O river of stars and shadows, lead me through the night.

Before the sun shone directly on the water in the morning and outshone it, I "played" a bit with exposure times and details.
The water has such a high falling speed that 1/8 to 1/10 exposure time is sufficient to make it soft and yet with a certain movement.

Maybe she appears
Ready to lay down and sleep
Please don't believe your eyes
She has a storm in her chest
It brews in silence
And those who know her
Call her wild card
For she is most calm
Before the storm...

Adams County-Washington State
This place held on in a precarious state for several years before it finally fell...
On my last run of development I found this image. I figured I better better post it before winter came fully and it went in my archives.
I posted the digital version of this not long ago. I'm not sure which I like better!
Now that I got that out of the way, I better get out there and start taking photos of the snow so I am seasonally appropriate. I have no idea why I need to be...but I just do!
Take care all!!

Getting out to a location well before dawn certainly puts a different perspective on the landscape. The sun was about 30 minutes away from creeping over the horizon and with a morning mist lifting from the ground, the low light conditions emphasised the departing moon and cast a purply blue light across the area. As I climbed up Round Hill at Wittenham Clumps, I turned to see the what you see here. In the low light the image became a bit grainy but only if you are being picky :) I wanted to get the moon with some misty landscape and that ethereal pale blue light.
